Was about to try PlexConnect for the first time. Was stoped in the step about creating a certificate for the SSL thing. I don't have an microUSB cable..
Is this step essential? :)
Yes. I'm afraid it is. Do you not have one that came with something like a mobile phone?
Any Samsung phone and others use micro USB.
Ebay $1 microusb or a borrow one from a friend & patience is all you need for a giant libray of content. If you ever upgrade/downgrade your ios firmware you will need it though to reinstall your cert.
Actually I didn't need to re-install the cert on the ATV after updating to iOS6. Just needed to copy the cert folder to the latest version of PlexConnect-master

If you reflash your atv you will need to install the cert again. However in an simple upgrade as you stated it is not needed.
You can also install a profile using your ATV remote and a webserver instead of using a physical cable.

I actually fully restored mine from iTunes and the Profile persisted for what it's worth.
If you have a webserver like f00b4r said, you can grab your original apple remote and goto settings then where it says send data to apple makes sure it says no, highlight that and press play it will take you the profile page with no microusb required jailbroken or not but you need to generate a trailers.pem and have a running webserver. Even if you never installed a profile prior this will work, ignore my previous post.

We're looking at this. The only issue would be if apple decides to lock down the play button profiles menu in a future firmware.
Right now the USB method is the IOS standard for these things.
