I have noticed that some downloaded YouTube videos do not play on my Plex server/Plex web client and I get a message “Cannot convert this item. Implementation for video decoder AV1 not found.”
That is odd. I can play it on every other device but Plex. Any ideas?
PS. What happened to “attachment” button? It appears I can no longer attach anything.
Plex does not support the AV1 codec. Unknown if/when AV1 will be supported. Plex generally does not release product plans.
You will need to download in another format or convert existing videos to a supported format (H.264 or H.265).
You may wish to vote for the feature suggestion: Add support for av1 coding standard.
Or just drag the file into the message window. It will insert a the cursor location.
Thanks to everyone who replied and the linked to up-vote av1 support. All I can say, it was quite an illuminating read (the AV1 thread, that is).
