No secure connection for Remote access

Server Version#: 1.16.2.1321
Player Version#: Latest web app
Hello,
I am trying to configure my Plex server on Win 10 to be able to allow secure remote connections but can’t figure out whats wrong.
I can connect securely on LAN
I can connect Remotely via HTTP
I have done the proper steps to login to my personal modem/router and forward the ports for my server to allow a direct connection. I have still been unable to connect securely.
Is there anything else I can try to fix this issue?
I have provided a log file relevant to my last remote attempt (Around 4pm on July 18th)
Let me know if I need to provide any additional information

Plex DLNA Server.1.log (410.1 KB)

What happens, if you open app.plex.tv remotely?

The App informs me I cannot establish a secure connection with the server, but I can reload with HTTP if I want.

I just realized I posted the wrong log so I am going to find the correct one to post by tomorrow.

I can imagine 2 scenarios:

  • the remote client is using a DNS server which cannot (reliably) resolve hostnames in the .direct TLD. Try using an alternative DNS server, like Google’s (8.8.8.8)
  • access is performed over a corporate/campus network which uses a firewall which is decrypting the TLS packets for inspection and then encrypts the packet with its own key and forwards it to the client.
The app can detect that the packet is using a wrong cryptographic key and dismisses it as having been tampered with.

Hey Otto,

Ill try to change the DNS of the modem/router and the plex server in order to see if that works.

Scenario 2 is possible since I am accessing from a corporate net, however my coworker was able to access his just fine so I’m thinking scenario 1 is most likely the case

Ill update this thread when I have figured out what the case is for sure

Hey Otto,
I tried using google DNS, I suspect it might be my companies internet, I still cannot connect securely.

Here is a zip of logs from today Plex Media Server Logs_2019-07-30_17-21-47.zip (3.6 MB)
Access time around 5:20pm PDT

Hey Otto,

I just tried using the company WiFi which has a different DNS and DHCP server and I was able to connect securely with no issues.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’d say this issue is resolved.
