Hi @all, i am pretty new with Plex on Synology 218+. If i play an MKV with Dolby Atmos, my TV (LG 75") shows ‘file has no audio’ . Works fine with DTS, DD etc. Any settings wrong? Sound should go through TV to my Atmos Soundbar (HDMI) Yamaha YSP5600. Any Idea?
and another… Same Config: some MKV files are running perfect, some show no pic. All made with same converter… arghhhghg
thank you,., regards Peter
Hi trumpy81 and thank you. Now some things work better. I used Plex running on my NAS and had the problems i mentioned.
Now i installed Plex in addition on my LG TV, the account was linked and all MKV are running from my NAS. Yippiee
The only Problem: If i ckecked all audioformat in Plex incl. Dolby True HD there is no audio on my Yamaha YSP 5600. Nothing.
If i UN-Check Dolby TrueHd the Dolby Atmos Movie have sound too, but only Dolby Digital/Surround.
What means the checkbox ??? Checked is on? or off? Dont understand this logic.
And to answer your question, why i use MKV: In MP4 Dolby Atmos is not supported. And i cant find a setting on the TV and in PLEX to pass through the audio .
If i now find a solution to run MKV with Atmos sound everything is perfect. Maybe someone can help again. best regards Peter
Regarding the audio, note that neither HDMI-ARC nor TOSLINK (optical/coax) audio support lossless codecs such as TrueHD or dts-HD.
PMS should transcode those audio tracks to a codec supported by your soundbar. As @trumpy81 mentions, you can look at Activity -> Now Playing in Plex Web during playback to see if/how the audio is being transcoded.
Not sure why there is a TrueHD setting in the LG Plex client, as there is no current way to pass TrueHD from the TV to an attached soundbar/receiver/etc. eARC, part of HDMI 2.1, will fix this, but devices supporting that standard are just starting to appear on the market.
On a separate note, be careful with subtitles using the LG Plex client. With my LG (WebOS 3.5), enabling any form of subtitles forces a video transcode. I mention this for two reasons: First, you’re running PMS on a Synology NAS, which has limited CPU/GPU power for transcoding; and Second, PMS transcodes 4K content to 1080p, so if you’re playing HDR video you’ll lose the HDR and colors will appear washed out (the transcode would fail anyway, due to limited CPU on the Synology).
very stupid. if i check TRUE HD in the Plex App on TV, it play direct without converting - but witout sound.
If i uncheck TrueHD i have sound, and it is converte to AAC.
Still to not understan the logic behind check and uncheck TrueHD.,
