After at least 2 years of working fine, my always-up-to-date Plex server no longer generates thumbnails for my DVR recordings (not sure if this affects other non-DVR additions as I’ve not purchased and ripped anything new recently).
Thumbnails display on the Roku app but not on most other apps. (These are valuable when skimming through news programs.)
Also, the older news shows are no longer being deleted (recordings set to keep latest only, delete on next refresh)…
Again, this has been working fine for years, stopped working for about week, likely when the server version was updated to Version 1.29.1.6316.

Exact same issue for me: DVR recordings no longer generate thumbnails, but they did on the previous release. Slight difference is that my Plex server is on a QNAP NAS (TS-453Be), but clearly that’s irrelevant.
Please fix this, or tell me how/if I can downgrade to the previous version.
Excellent. Thanks for that report and link. I was able to install this 32 bit version in spite of my installation of the 64 bit version (had to rename 64 bit version folder/shortcut to ensure that buggy version doesn’t run).
Plex: please git to work on a hotfix ASAP!
I must wonder if all those “lifetime” subscriptions have killed Plex’s cashflow and thus lead to more bugs being introduced in to new releases.
This bug is a bit difficult to test/recreate because it’s intermittent: some recording instances DO create thumbnails.
Likewise, many older recordings DO get deleted, but many others are left in the library indefinitely.
Here’s a set of logs showing thumbnails not being created. I record the NBC Nightly News from 18:30-19:00 each evening, and thumbnails are not being generated. Server version is 1.29.1.6316.
I must admit I’m losing faith in Plex resolving faults, I feel they try and put people off by requiring lots of logs for clearly defined issues that they should be able to recreate themselves (do they even have test rigs and plans?), and even when you provide all the data they request you tpically don’t hear anything
Plex really is a niche product and they need their users to enthuse about it to friends and family to help survive, but there’s no way I could possibly do that at present sadly
It looks like all post-processing on the recordings is getting skipped for some reason. I noticed tonight that on my news recordings that are not generating thumbnails, it’s also not marking commercials for skip.
I’ve seen this too, but on a hit or miss basis. Some programs (mostly news-type) will not generate thumbnails and others will. Maybe something different about those types of programs or the marking that is broadcast?

@hawkinsb - I am having the same issue as you. No thumbnails being generated. Last night I updated the PMS to 1.29.2.6364, but the issue of no thumbnails generated continued today.
Also, I can confirm that the thumbnails are not being generated. I have used the Windows 10 desktop app, plex via browser, Roku plex app, and iPhone plex app, and none of the stuff I’ve recorded using the DVR has any thumbnails in any of those Plex apps. Two weeks ago (or three), thumbnails were working just fine. Older recorded DVR shows still have their thumbnails. Sometimes I can get thumbnails if I manually select an episode (I use them for fast forwarding news) and click “Analyze”, but it’s inconsistent and doesn’t always work.
I’m using Plex Media Server on a Windows 10 machine (currently 1.29.6367 as of last night, but the issue occurred on the prior version also). And I mostly watch just on my home network.
