The lack of care is evident in the absence of this feature being ‘fully functional’. As it stands the auto selection is wrong any time there is a forced sub. It should be easy to use the existing flags from the subtitle/track to make smarter choices based on user preferences.
Only slightly related but it’s also obnoxious how the list of subtitles does not bother showing the flags for each track… instead showing the same text in ambiguous list:
English (SRT)
English (SRT)
English (SRT)
Which one is which… it should be something like:
English (SRT)
English (SRT, Forced)
English (SRT, Hearing)
Plex Media Player (HTPC) doesn’t even show the subtitle track titles but at least the web player does… where no one should be playing anything from…
So anyway if it wasn’t enough of a failure that this preference lacks the ability to be used as a reliable preference… the selection list is a tedious and under-featured thing to use as well…
Sorry, can’t help with that. I have UI language set to English.
Unfortunately, that’s true. Take a look at what “new features” are introduced into Plex these days. They don’t give a f**k about us anymore. They don’t even bother responding on the forum.
I’m with you. The only way I’ve found around this is using the PASTA audio and subtitle track changer. When I encounter a series I’m watching with the wrong kind of subs, I use it to mass change the entire series/season to non-forced subtitles. Though that only works if all the subtitle tracks are close enough in name and type. https://www.pastatool.com/
The only other way I’ve been able to do this, is changing which subtitle track is the default using a tool like MKVToolNix GUI.
I wish Plex would implement this themselves, which is why I search every few months only to find forum threads like these with no responses from the Plex team.
