Once upon a time, a few years back, when our family first started using Plex, it was very simple to import an iTunes generated playlist into your Plex Media Server. Now it no longer seems to be a working feature.
Sure, there are old instructions on how to add the proper Settings (Settings > Plugins) to point to the XML file for iTunes. But there is no option on the Playlist Tab of your Library to actually Import an iTunes Playlist, let alone any other playlist, as per some older instructions posts.
The current system for adding a song from your Library into a Playlist is far more labor intensive then when you do the same thing in iTunes. In iTunes I can just drag a song to a playlist and it gets added. Whereas in Plex you have to go through several menu clicks and selections just to add one song to a playlist. This is an extremely tedious set of steps when trying to create your own playlists from within Plex Media Server.
We originally started using Plex because of how easy it was to import iTunes playlists, but over the past year that functionality seems to have either diminished or was removed entirely. Sure, there is a setting for adding the XML, but there is no option available for actually importing it within the Library itself. The menu of options for the Library no longer has an import from iTunes function.
This is a key feature that really should be re-added unless there is some legal reason for why it was removed and/or just not working correctly anymore? Because your current system for adding songs into playlists is far to labor intensive to be worth the time to create and then add to playlists from within the Plex interface itself (going through menu’s).
