Not able to claim server

I’m running plex media server on my headless NUC (Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS). I am not able to play any files on it since a couple of days now. It used to work fine before.

The first problem is that my server is unclaimed and it doesnt show up on my TV app. I tried logging in to <server_ip>:32400/web and tried claiming the server, but it keeps spinning and doesnt work.

And when i try to play videos from my safari browser on <server_ip>:32400/web i get a
“Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” The file is h264, and it should do direct play instead of transcoding.

It look like you might have IPV6 enabled on the server network settings. would you mind turning that off, restarting server app, and trying again.

I did this and restarted the server. Still no luck.

I want to add, it stopped working after i upgraded my ubuntu from 16 to 18.

Bad DNS or default gateway

If gateway is okay, then try and switch DNS to Google (8.8.8.8)

All the requests to https://plex.tv from Plex Media Server timed out including the ones relating to claiming the server

you could use curl in a linux command line shell on the server and see if it gets to plex.tv - one you could try is this command. You should get back a response xml with error 1001
curl https://plex.tv/media/providers?X-Plex-Token=

This works correctly on the server. I get a 1001 -

Tried this too. I see the same 408 error again.

Interesting, so same https request works ok on the server using curl in linux shell but times out from within plex media server binary.

what was the exact package that was installed? and the platform details

Used plexmediaserver_1.17.0.1709-982421575_amd64.deb to install.

uname -a gives me

lsb_release -a gives

The Plex Media Server log shows all internal requests within the local network or loopback working ok but no external requests succeeding - may be you have some firewall / security blocking Plex Media Server from going to the internet

Seen that…It’s BAD DNS!!!

It’s simply too slow, so please switch to Google DNS
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

Then reboot, and try again
