Not able to update plex server version because of "plex media server unable to open its media database"

Server Version#: 1.12.1.4885

Plex community, I’m hoping someone out there can help point me in the right direction. I am stuck on Plex server version 1.12.1.4885. I was pretty good about updating every few months to the latest version until we hit around 1.14.1.5488. When I tried updating to that version, my dashboard disappeared and I got a “plex media server unable to open its media database” error. Everything I read in the forums said would have to delete my databases and start over. This wasn’t acceptible to me because I have a lot of customization in my music library and music playlists that have taken years to build. So I reverted to 1.12.1.4885 and the server came back up. Now it appears that the latest version of Plex for Android Mobile is very angry with my server version because it will not advance to the next song when playing an album. When a song is over, the app just goes back to the album screen and song list and will not advance. Also Chromecast will not work either. So I decided that it’s been a year later so I would try updating to the latest version which is 1.18.xxx and again, a year later, I get the same issue “plex media server unable to open its media database” and again the forums just offer the same answer to delete the database files and start over. This is entirely unacceptable to me. I have reverted back to 1.12.1.4885 again and server comes right back up but does unfortunately not play well with the latest release of the android mobile app which is a big deal for me. If there is anyone in the community that can help me solve this, would really appreciate some advice. The plex database couldn’t be that corrupt that it opens fine in 1.12.1.4885 but can’t in higher revs, or could it? Thanks.
