you’re just trolling now, and i said earlier i agreed with your main point. there’s no reason to antagonize multiple people in a row with the same comments.
i’d replace your plex forum hobby with something else that is more productive ![]()

I still don’t understand your hate against Hetzner. Hetzner is a company based in Germany and German/EU laws are very strict. If someone gets caught doing illegal stuff 1. their account will probably get terminated 2. it’s very easy to identify the customer since they do KYC checks.
Don’t forget the REAL INCENTIVE why they are doing all of this. Screenshot by Lightshot
Plex (even non-employees) are granted the ability to see who you share your server with. It’s pretty clear if you have 3 people connected to your server that you’re not selling access
Many companies don’t like the business practices of other companies (Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft) all have major problems with each other. Scummy business practices are rampant
But for the sake of the consumer, they all come to some kind of agreement on how to incorporate each other into their products
People bought a product without any type of restriction on where they host their server and that is now being changed mid-stream
@sixxnet , many of the companies you use are polluted with disease. Would you like Plex to tell you that you can no longer use your brand of TV because that company got caught using child labor in Taiwan?
Almost every accusation you’ve lobbed towards Hetzner has been said about Plex at some point. Yet you’ve managed to be here with your legally obtained media without any questions to ask yourself
How would you feel if your ISP blocked you from using Plex?
This is not just about Hetzner. There’s a bigger picture here and moves like this can be a slippery slope.
I hope you can keep your moral high ground and great attitude about things when it gets to a product or service that actually impacts you
Shameful.
Lifetime Plex Pass user, moved to a hosted server, used Plex Cloud, your own solution and after you shut that down again to a hosted server.
I don’t have a stable home where I can put a server, I move around the world a lot. I also share my server with a small number of friends, but that is just a byproduct of my personal setup. Sharing that from a home connection would be difficult, even if I would have a stable home.
The content I watch is not mainstream, commercial streaming doesn’t work for me due to travels and availability on streaming platforms.
I’m not on Hetzer, but this is a really bad sign. I didn’t switch to Jellyfin due to Plex’s good UI/UX and other features and I would rather stay.
Plex is doing this to people who have a dedicated IP address at Hetzner too, not just those who share an IP on a Hetzner VPS. I have used Plex on my dedicated server for over 5 years now. Same dedicated IP address the entire time. I don’t even share with others. They are lazily banning the entire Hetzner IP range. Whoever came up with this piss-pour idea should be canned.
I had to go out of my way just to add my own comment here.
Very, very disappointed in Plex as a whole. The second you, as a company, allowed media to be shared to more then a few users you opened the flood gates for everyone to begin “sharing” with whomever they please.
With that said, there are some of us (myself included) who have no choice but to rent a dedicated server from Hetzner as we aren’t as fortunate as most to have the availability of high upload speeds at home. Personally, my server is hosted at Hetzner due mainly to the fact that I work out of town and only have 15Mbps up ony fiber line at home. Meaning I wouldn’t be able to watch what I want, in the quality I want to watch it in whenever I want to watch it. And is this not the reason I paid you, Plex, roughly $150 CAD?
It’s a shame you’re going this route. I can guarantee you now you’ll be loosing a massive, massive amount of your subscriber base. I for one have been playing with Jellyfin and will begin the process of migrating over to it completely.
Shame on you Plex, shame on you! I feel as though if you were able to come up with such an amazing concept for an application then it’s quite possible that you’d be able to brainstorm and come up with a much better way of handling things ( like actually limiting the amount of shares anyone can have. Honestly, who the hell has 100 friends/family that they want to just to “share” their media with… come on!).
What part of that purchase was required to host the server at Hetzner?
I had no idea they had something like this in the works. So we’re going to be blessed with “plex-flix” are we? Yeah, I 100% agree with what’s being said here in this screenshot. It only makes sense.
Terrible business practices, terrible policies.
I host at home but I stand in solidarity with all those who do use Hetzner. That’s a very stupid decision to make and there is no technical justification for it. You must identify those who infringe on ToS and target them directly, while keeping legitimate and honest customers unaffected. A blanket ban is unacceptable.
I think I will move to a competing service if that ban goes into effect, just because it’s a dick move.
lol my dude, do you really have a reason to argue? As far as I can see, you’re a subscriber like myself.
But transcoding if you really must ask.
Wow look at you. Looks like you’ve got your big boy pants on today and are arguing with just about everyone’s comment. Might be a great time for a hobby. The grass is green outside, just saying…
There really is no reason to block hetzner because the people they wish to block will just tunnel thru another datacenter while still hosting in hetzner. This is an extremely simple and cheap concept to implement for the people who sell Plex library access.
So no matter what Plex does in this regard will be all for nothing.
I could host in hetzner and make it look like it’s coming from AWS with little real effort.
Just face it Plex. With your current product you can’t stop these people no matter what you do. It’s impossible. Literally. You will always be playing wackamole. Plex literally implemented sharing in their product and now face the concequences of YOUR OWN ACTIONS.
That’s not required for hosting at Hetzner though is it? And that functionality is available/will continue to be available on any plex server you claim won’t it? So, how was it required to host at Hetzner (and specifically Hetzner)?
I was originally hoping someone might actually be able to defend the hyperbole they’re spouting, but that didn’t seem to pan out. Still there’s always hope I guess…
Shame on you!
We’re not dumb. There are simpler and better targeted ways to stop ToS violtaions.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised. The writing has been on the wall for a while with your shift in focus and business model. Just a shame you can’t be honest about your intentions.
We can tell how much you cherish your (previously) loyal customers by the fact that you have more than 250 comments in this thread and ONE response from a Plex employee and that was facile and disingenuous.
Time for Plex employees to dust of their résumés as you’ve just broken the company.
So long!
And the cowards at Plex just don’t comment.
You are jokes!
They are clearly not bulletproof and request identity card before hosting you ^^
They do NOT require ID for everybody. It depends where in the world you are.
And even if they did require it for everybody it’s just a minor hassle and doesn’t mean they aren’t bulletproof.
Same thing with OVH. They also require ID if you live in some parts of the world. However, it can be worked around.
That’s really great news Plex-Team. Didn’t you say, “your data belongs to you” and no data are collected? From what the heck do you even know that there are some ToS violations, even if? Let’s see what data privacy agencies will say about and would be interesting, what information you’ve collected in addition.
Very good example to see, how a company can burry itself within a few weeks. Always glad to see having a company which puts all customers under a general suspicion while only a few may terminate ToS.
Dear Plex-Team, hopefully all of you are already looking for a new job, as your company may not exist very long anymore. I already stopped using my Plex server at Hetzner. Not as I am terminating ToS but as we use it to share all of our pictures and videos within the family and we all definitely do not know what data you collect exactly, I don’t want to see our pictures and data sold by Plex to some suspicious companies or processed somehow else.
He is just trolling at this point
