So far, from all reports, this big scary blockade is turning out to be a complete nothingburger.
I didnāt expect it to go boom on the 12th, I am guessing the ban takes time to add all the IP ranges, propagate etc. I am keeping Plex running for a while but canāt rely on it any longer.
Well, it was fun while it lasted. My server on Hetzner is no longer available in plex.tv/app so⦠on to Jellyfin.
Same here, just disappeared.
Communication from a company people have paid money to has been beyond appalling. I could easily set up a new instance on any other provider, but Iām never going to bother with them again.
I canāt say I blame you. Itās really quite infuriating.
This will be my solution.
Thereās a fork off of that thatās somewhat better in my view:
Well, what a sad dayā¦
docker-compose down --rmi all
Stopping plex ... done
Removing plex ... done
Removing image lscr.io/linuxserver/plex:latest
Server vanished a couple hours ago.
I spun up an instance of plex at home on an old odroid board only for plexamp and sonos. Thatās something my upload can handle. Thanks again for forcing me to run something new 24/7 from home, even though I had (and still have) everything I needed. Wasting energy is fun.
The rest changed sadly? from orange to green. Still too early to tellā¦
Mine is gone now too. Imagine those disgusting persons, Dean, Keith and Stefan. They are surely happy now.
On to Jellyfin. Plex will just block the next cheapest provider nextā¦
Most likely unrelated but my server disappeared last night, has never done that before. Spoke with our local user group and a dozen others had the same issue with their servers.
None of us use Hetzner !
As of this morning, all back online.
Feel sorry for those using the Hetzner cloud service to host. I may actually look into doing this in the near future with a different cloud service to remove the need to keep my local server running 24/7 and deal with our poor upload speeds as well.
Good luck to all those Hetzner users ![]()
My guess they are indifferent which hurts even more ![]()
I would not have thought how strange and wrong it feels to delete the plex apps on my devices (plexamp excepted - still love it to death). Apps who have accompanied me since many yearsā¦
Ah, enough with the emotions - on to new adventuresā¦
Who says its just a provider?
We saw they are totaly random. Maybe the ban Disney content even on your home machine because you could ābuyā it from them?
If hetzner wasnāt a bulletproof company in regards to pirated media none of this would have happened. OVH will be next.
I came to the forums this evening trying to figure out why my Plex stopped working today and finally found this post. I never received an email, I had no warning. Iāve had my server on Hetzner for multiple years now hosting for myself. If this is why my Plex server no longer works then Iām very angry. Iāve been using Plex for years and paid for the life long pass about last year. This is unreal. PLEX CAN GO F*CK THEMSELVES! So much wasted time setting up a server and getting things working. Iām so angry I canāt even get the words outā¦
I also never received an email from Plex, the ban just hit me out of the blue. Asking on reddit was a mistake though because even the simple question why the bans even started never got any useful reply besides āyou were warnedā (which I, even after triple checking my inbox, can confirm that I just wasnāt)
These bans are lazy. Banning an entire hosting provider because some people violate your TOS is lazy. But after spending more than 200⬠for monthly Plex Pass (and at the end of last year the lifetime version) I would think that they would at least make sure to inform every affected user. A single email, that I and many others simply didnāt even receive, is just not enough for a service I paid so much money to support.
Coming home after a long day of work and having to troubleshoot a completely unnecessary problem that I couldāve been warned about more than a month ago is not the way I want to be treated as a paying customer.
Same here⦠lost access to my server (401 unauthorized errors), tried reinstalling from scratch, unable to claim and so on and so on⦠Never received any email regarding this from Plex. Been a happy monthly Plex Pass user since 2015 (i know) until yesterday evening⦠Migrating to an alternative as of now⦠Thanks Plex for thisā¦
Same here. Moved my homelab to a Hetzner colocation rack a while ago. I have not received any email but I have seen a post about it on reddit, so I am not entirely hit by surprise and I have already set up emby as an alternative two weeks ago.
Goodbye Plex. You have lost me and my friends as users today.
how isnt that breaking EU net neutrality laws? has someone already started the process of sueing plex?
