I’m also done with Plex BS and moved to JF.
Didn’t know JF up until now and I’m very pleased so far. There are even several things that work much better. If I had known it earlier I would’ve never bought a Plex Pass.
Exactly the same here.
Learned about JF in this very thread, did an experimental install with a few different usecases, then moved the whole library in a few days.
I also would never have bought a Plexpass if I found JF earlier.
At least, I only payed Plex for 2 years, not a lifetime pass as many others.
Yes it works. Takes sometimes a bit longer to load though, dont know if it’s related.
Your two-year membership was probably exactly the same price as the lifetime membership. ![]()
Smells like a gag order to me, i don’t think plex is stupid enough to enforce something that would only hurt their company and damage customers trust in the service. Like what other ip can they randomly block by their own discretion. Some judge that don’t know better or have friends in the media industry would though and since gag orders are common practice in US who can tell. Since this will have effects on Hetzners business though Hetzners could maybe take it to court.
Gag orders aren’t usually used in civil matters - my guess would be a settlement that includes an NDA.
I think at this point I’m migrating to Jellyfin, especially after the news that Plex is opening a media store for purchases and rentals.
I’m not against Plex making money, but they’ve made it clear that sacrificing the user experience is the first thing they’re willing to do. I’ve lost trust in Plex.
I wouldn’t worry about that. In a world that you can’t even trust Sony for this, who’s going to trust Plex? Maybe for rentals for not for buying.
I am sure Keith and Justin are already thinking:
How can we please the content owners.
Next ban will be all private media. Trust me.
They are so greedy
And I still didn’t go to Stans to say “hi” to those nice people
F this. the last straw. been a plex sub for the past decade. just spent almost 24 hours trying to work out why my small personal server on hetzner would not claim to my account and would give a Not authorized error and then i find this thread. off to jellyfin i guess. good luck with your now dumpster fire ■■■■ product.
WTF I’ve paid for plex and now this? Why and for what reason?
Please explain.
So taking money is fine but actually allowing paying customers to use it is not? What is wrong?
Turns out only if you use Hetzner you are not allowed to use Plex but the rules of Plex. All other datacenters are fine.
Sanctioning one of Germanys top tier datacenter providers is totally fine and taking money from the customers and not not delivering as well.
This is not acceptable.
I am very sad I already bought a plexpass so I cannot cancel my subscription.
Blocking the biggest (and absolutely legitimate) European Server Provider is ridiculous. What the use of an “home hosted” Server and iPad and iPhone Apps, if my upstream is too weak to stream 720p?
Plex shouldn’t be able to distinguish between piracy and legitimate use, the same Microsoft should not be capable of distinguishing legitame and piracy use of Internet Explorer.
The fact that Plex claims they noted piracy through Europes biggest Server Hosting suggest, Plex does not comply GDPR.
Not at all. There are places where paid Plex shares advertise. Or, a rightsholder could have done their own investigation and alerted Plex.
I sympathize with those impacted and the enforcement action does seem heavy handed, but I doubt it’s a crime.
Actually depending on how soon you bought it, you can contact billing for a refund through the plex.tv billing section.
same here, very disappointed
