Not in tvdb but moviedb shows it as a TV show

I have a TV special that I can’t get to scrap. It’s called
michael j. fox, adventures of an incurable optimist
theTVDB.com doesn’t have it in their database but theMovieDB does. However, theMovieDB lists it as a TV show.
So, if I include it with my TV shows the scrapper doesn’t find it and if I include it with my movies the scrapper doesn’t find it.
Is there anything I can do to get this included in my plex listings? I’d be happy to manually add it but I can’t figure out how to do that either.
Any help would be help.
Thanks.

You can match TV Shows using TheMovieDB. Include it in your TV Show library like any other show. PMS will either match it to the wrong show or leave it unmatched. You can then fix the match or do a manual match, changing the agent to TheMovieDB.

I have that on DVD! It is a very good tv special.

TheTVDB will not list this because they have a very strict policy of single episode shows(if this ever was gonna be a series). I remember the talk of Amazon’s Pilot show, “The Tick 2016”…

Anyhow, you know you can add stuff yourself to themoviedb… Here you go. A good start. Add or edit what you like… Good luck.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong cause if I put it in with my TV shows it doesn’t show up in Plex at all so I don’t have an opportunity to correct it or manually edit it.

NewPlaza,
I knew about theTVDB policy and it’s already in theMovieDB. My problem is with Plex scrapping. If I have it in the folder that uses theTVDB agent then nothing shows up (I’m assuming cause it isn’t in theTVDB). If I have it in the folder with my movies it shows up but it doesn’t have the right info (I’m assuming cause theMovieDB lists it as a TV show).
So I either get no info or wrong info. At least when I include it in the movies I can then manually edit it.

It’s now a movie(documentary) but use themoviedb when you search

I did have to change the poster cause plex didn’t download it… You win some, you lose some, lol! Maybe it time the poster will be available for automatic download by plex.

Looks like TheMovieDB has it as both a TV Show, Michael J. Fox: Adventures Of An Incurable Optimist (TV Series) — The Movie Database (TMDB), and a movie Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist (2009) — The Movie Database (TMDB). The TV show one is pretty blank so probably better to make it a movie.

If you do make it a TV Show, you still need to name it like a show so you need to add S01E01 after the title.

Edit - TheMovieDB only has the show, not any episodes, so I don’t know if it will be able to match as a TV Show. Best to use the Movie option.

changing the name on it to include a season & episode number worked. From there I just manually cut & pasted the info from themoviedb.
I’m now a happy camper.
Thanks everyone!

It used to be the case that thetvdb.com had a strict policy against single episode shows but thankfully recently that policy seems to have changed. Here in the UK we have a lot of single episode dramas on TV & it’s a nonsense that they should be regarded as Movies rather than TV shows. The TVDB policy was stupid & inconsistent anyway so a show in one part was forbidden but a show in two parts was counted as a series & a pilot counted as a movie until the series was made & then it was retrospectively accepted as a TV show. As far as I am concerned if they were shown on TV & not in the cinema then it’s a TV show.

I came across several recently but the only on that I can remember off the top of my head is:-
Brexit: The Uncivil War https://www.thetvdb.com/series/brexit-the-uncivil-war

That’s to be debated as to it’s status. It’s currently listed here too.

And discussed here.

The last unofficial word on it was to take it out of the Channel 4 (UK) Documentaries lineup and to removed it completely from TheTVDb.

The distinction between ‘Movies’ and ‘TV Shows’ in Plex (and on both TheTVDB and TMDB databases) is this:

  • Movies are one-off

  • TV Shows should be rather named ‘TV Series’, because it is the serial nature which requires them to be in a ‘TV Show’ library in Plex.
If a movie was originally aired on TV instead of shown in the cinema, only makes it a ‘TV Movie’, not a ‘TV Show’.

It seems the way to play by the rules on thetvdb.com & get them to include one-off dramas is to have an overarching category like BBC Drama or C4 (UK) Drama or ITV Drama categorised by year of broadcast.
BBC Drama - TheTVDB.com
Channel 4 (UK) Drama - TheTVDB.com
ITV Drama - TheTVDB.com

This is the same approach as taken with one-off documentaries.

Brexit: The Uncivil War in this case belongs in Channel 4 (UK) Drama 2018 https://www.thetvdb.com/series/channel-4-uk-drama/seasons/2018

Would that be the best place? It was released in Jan 2019. Would it not be better suited in… You know… Never mind. Not the really the correct site for this conversion. lol!
