USABLE Movie / TV Database

Plex is tied into Plex Movie DB or The Movie Database or TVDB (which doesn’t work EITHER!).
I know because a TVDB entry (that has an ID) isn’t found by Plex and a number of times the Plex Movie DB and The Movie Database have proven to be USELESS in movie “matching” when IT EXISTS BIG AS LIFE ON IMDB…
If you guys aren’t going to keep your DB up to date, why don’t you at least allow a USABLE database to interface for the purposes of matching movies (or TV)?
i.e. “Anna” (2019) release date of June 21 - STILL won’t match and doesn’t exist in either Plex DB or The Movie DB (it’s now September 17th!)

Anna (2019) was matched perfectly for me using ‘Plex Movie’ as the agent. Here is the exact settings I have used …

I have BOTH of those specified; finds “NO Match” AND when the Search is performed, I can specify EITHER of them for the Search along with input of the year of the movie…
NOT FOUND ON EITHER DATABASE.
Nor is this an isolated case - happens time and again
The Last Photograph (2017, 2019 US) NOT FOUND
(and a couple of others I didn’t notate)
TVDB search FAILS as well - they exist in the database, but Plex won’t find them
The Truth About Franco Spains Forgotten Dictatorship
World War Speed the Drugs That Won WWII
Living in Sin Inside a Religious Reform School
These are only single episode documentaries, but were put specifically in a “Series” library so that they could be found using the specified agent - TVDB.

Maybe I should mention, I’m using Version 1.16.4.1469 if that makes a difference.
It was downloaded/installed on unRAID from the LimeTech repository (the latest)…
(Any attempt to replace from another source would require me to rebuild EVERYTHING from scratch - reinput Libraries, etc.)

Thetvdb has a very strict policy about single episode series. That is, that don’t allow. Period.

What Qualifies as a Series:

  • A series is exactly what it sounds like, a sequence of shows. If a show on TV isn’t a series, it doesn’t belong here, with the exception of documentaries (see “Documentaries” in this post). This means that made-for-TV movies, single episode specials, and the like should not be listed on theTVdb. These should be included in your movies directories as most movie database websites (IMDB, TMDb, etc.) take care of them. If in doubt, post in the forums before adding a series. Web Series’ fall under a different set of rules which can be found HERE

Most likely not gonna be an independent series and probably part of another series.
Aired August 26, 2019.
Not added to thetvdb yet.

Thank-you for the info…
Upon further investigation, I have found that:

  1. There appear to be times when the DB’s may be inaccessible or “time-out” as is the case with Anna and The Last Photograph which (eventually) downloaded metadata upon further attempts.
  2. It would appear that there is more of an issue with Plex dysfunction/inability to download metadata in the cases where the data actually exists in the database, but NEVER gets downloaded. (Occurrs quite frequently in the case of the TVDB.)
  3. And there is the issue raised where the database does not supply the information – and the question originally posed for which no response has been had, “Why isn’t a first-rate database, IMDB, interfaced with Plex?”
