Not seeing Sonic Analysis progress in "Activity"... ever. Even when its happening

I’m having a hard time with Sonic Analysis. I’m doing everything I can to prioritize it and get it finished - I’ve removed other scheduled tasks from Plex’s to-do list, I’ve expanded the Scheduled Tasks window as far as possible, I’ve even avoided USING Plex (music, in particular) as much as I can to just -leave it alone- to do its thing.

That said… watching the console & filtering for “sonic analysis” or “music” or anything… references to sonic analysis are few and far between. AND… i have not ONCE seen Sonic Analysis in the “activity” area… everything ELSE shows up as normal.

So… any ideas what’s going on here?

I’m also having a weird transcoder crash issue where it looks like its trying to transcode something aac but i have no idea why. No clue if that’s connected. Including logs anyway.Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-01_12-47-14.zip (3.1 MB)

Without looking at your logs (I’m currently mobile sorry), one thing to make sure of is that you’re looking in the right place. The version of Plex Web bundled with the server (for now) is a little older than the one at https://app.plex.tv, and as such doesn’t display the analysis task in the activity area. Check the hosted app, and see if the activity shows up there!

You can also manually get the analysis to start by ensuring the “run as scheduled task and when new media is added” preference is set, and triggering a scan on the music library. Cancelling the scan immediately is a neat shortcut to get the sonic analysis started immediately.

While the above is the best advice, you can also look in the Console under the Settings of the server and if you search for MusicAnalysis you can isolate the processes specific to this, you should see albums being decoded and queued for processing as well as a percentage indicator updating after each album completes.
