I really want my Trailers app back. Is there a way to switch the hijacked app to NHL or something? I searched around a bit, but I couldn't find any guides or anything. I guess no one actually minds losing Trailers on Apple TV but me :P

I'm a regular user, not a computer engineer. I can't create certificates and connect Apple TV to my computer and somesuch. Too much trouble for too little. I really don't need the Trailers app THAT bad.
Well I just happened to develop a app called OpenPlex for OSX. It makes life a lot easier to switch certs to iMovie or wsj. The link is in my signature. It’s based off baa’s code with a few of my own adjustments.
You can generate iMovie certs pretty easily using terminal and changing a setting in settings.cfg, loading certs onto aTV and restarting plexconnect as well:
Just change the code from trailers.apple.com to www.icloud.com when generating certs. Settings.cfg just needs to have an edit from “hosttointercept = trailers.apple.com” to “hosttointercept = www.icolud.com” then restart plexconnect (I assume you know how to load certs onto your aTV). If not:
I just tried OpenPlex again now. I'm sorry to say it's just as crazy and user unfriendly. I watched Safari and Terminal download files without knowing what to do with them. After a long process that involved A LOT of guesswork and leaps of faith, everything got stuck on hijacking. I've been watching the circle turn under the iMovie icon for 15 minutes now. Is it working? Did it get stuck? Should I force quit?
PlexConnect has been around for ages. Why don't we have a GUI that works out of the box? Or at least something that's less mindboggling than this.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help. This is just frustrating as hell.
That’s a first. Everyone else that has used it has had success. I put a short tut on the last post in the openplex topic. I haven’t had time to put a wiki together on how to explain how to use it…yet. You can always go back to terminal commands if the app (GUI) is too confusing.
Yes, I think that's the problem I have; the absence of a wiki. I just hope whatever this OpenPlex downloaded on my computer doesn't mess with it.
Thanks for the tutorial. I officially give up, though. For a full day now, I've been trying to do this one thing, trying a bunch of different stuff with a lot of back and forth. I'm effing okay without the Trailers app.
Honestly most of the issues I have seen are user errors when troubleshooting for people. This app is for beginners and experts alike. I guess I don’t see what is so hard about:
Downloading an app.
Installing the apps code
Picking a theme.
Choosing a hijack. (PlexConnect should be running at this point)
After you choose a hijack you may need to pick it again I have seen OSX not work right the first time it’s chosen which is a OSX issue I believe. Otherwise install teamviewer and send me a pm. Probably not a good idea to knock someone’s hard work and expect support but I guess it’s expected when you are frustrated & new @ this. I guess I will try to be nice today, I am recieving a nice shiny MacBook Pro.
I'm sure it's because of my errors. I'm not knocking your hard work, nor do I expect support. Thanks again for trying to help. I thought there might be an easier way to do this. Apparently there isn't, and I'm moving on with my life. It's Plex's fault not providing a GUI that works out of the box, not users who are trying to fix that problem. In any case, Terminal commands and OpenPlex are too complex for me.
I guess I don’t understand you were able to get it working prior installing PlexConnect and generating certs but you can’t change a simple string from trailers.apple.com to www.icloud.com when generating certs and modifying the hosttointercept in settings.cfg? Once complete you simply do a clean shutdown of PlexConnect and start it back up to load the new settings/hijack/cert. with the instructions I provided earlier with terminal it should be pretty straight forward. There are multiple topics about this that you (I assume) unfortunately missed but are complete searchable by clicking the search button at the top right of the forums. Search term:
iMovie
Now your knocking Plex? Ouch…you should be knocking apple for no Plex app and no App Store. Not developers.
Yes, I don't understand why it doesn't work, either. I advise you to let it go, and move on. Thanks again for your efforts. I'm fine without the Trailers app, and I'm unfollowing this topic.
Command line terminal method works. My app works for multiple users. They just don't work for you for whatever reason unfortunately. Topic unfollowed, not that I was following it. I just attempt to assist users if they desire to be assisted.
Final thought: I assume (hope) you stopped your running PlexConnect instance you had running in terminal prior to running the app by doing a clean shutdown (ctrl+c ). If not this would not allow the cert/hijack function to complete it's operation. The app cannot fix broken macs or stop PlexConnect if it's running in a terminal. OpenPlex installs a plist by default to start/stop/update PlexConnect. Just closing the terminal window is not a clean shutdown and leaves a running instance of PlexConnect in the background which you can see if activity monitor as multiple python instances.
Edit - Just tested on my new macbook pro on 10.9.4 and my app worked flawlessly without a hitch whatsoever. I must conclude that your osx filesystem has errors or something else is causing your issues that has nothing to do with the code of my app. Good day.
