When I hit view xml it take me to a ne page and stays white. It’s fully loaded because the refresh icon shows up in the taskbar.

You have image-based (PGS) subtitles in the video.

The hardware can’t handle that (Intel didn’t give us that capability).
Do you need the subtitles? If not, I urge you to take them out of any & all movies you don’t need them for.
SRT (text based) are OK but PGS, VOBSUB, and DVDRIP are images and they are the problem.
The CPU must do them. That’s why the hardware transcoding is getting disabled.
Do you have the program mkvtoolnix ?
It will allow you to remux (re-multiplex) the file and remove the PGS subtitle tracks (just unselect the boxes for them) and let it copy the rest through to the new output file.
Once done, it takes the place of the original . You click “Analyze” after putting the new in place.
Done.
So even though I don’t have the subtitles selected it still affects the file? I thought PGS was more of a burn in/forced subtitle thing

Yes. It does this because, at any point, you could turn them on.
TV’s usually can’t overlay images but they can overlay text easily.
Text based are easy. – a third stream is sent.
For Image subtitles, they get burned into the displayed image.
SO what about subtitles, that are like when a Russians boss is talking to his cronies, and its subtitled for that quick scene

The other reason I “prefer” not to have to do that is because I seed these files too, and if I alter them I can’t seed. but I guess if its between them and me, its a no brainer
If you can write a batch script (presuming windows) which will get all the mkv files,
the program which does the work is mkvmerge. mkvmerge runs at the command line in the batch file and can be told what to clean out.
I have the equivalent for Linux and will give you that script

Regaring those forced-subtitles; If they are text based, they are just as good / ok a any other text based subtitles. They are timed by the movie studio to show at just the right moment and they work just that way
ok. let me get toolnix and ill try Dr strange remuxing. Is the Synology powerful enough to run the file transfers? Meaning, can I run the program on my Mac but keep the source and destinations on the NAS, or do I have to bring all the files to my SSD on my mac, remux them , and send them back to the nas?
Yes. The Syno is more than powerful enough to do the Remux.
Remux is a simple Read/write operation.
I hope I’m helping in all this. This is a “collecting” vs “curating” type problem . It’s a distinction not many understand when they start.
Hopefully we can get this to where your media is flawless and to your liking.
Also, as you obtain more, you’ll better understand which tracks to keep and which to dump. It will not only save space but yield a better playback experience.

So it looks like MKVtoolnix last sported was for a way older version of OSX? My make MKV allows me to deselect all the subtitles so its working on it now.
By collection vs curating, you mean that as I collect my files, I should pay attention to the details, vs getting whatever I think works, and fixing it later?
YES. As you get / rip each one, curate (filter) it. make sure the end product is exactly how you want it.
When you’re done, you set the name, give it to Plex, and forget about it – it’s done.
Unfortunately I have to erase all my files a re download them anyway because Synology lied to me. I created a SHR because it was supposed to be easily expandable. well I tried putting a new 12tb drive in there today and it won’t accept it into the volume.
Synology says that aooaren ly when I first set up the SHR it gave me a choice between expandability, and performance, (which I do not remember) and I apparently select performance. so my version of an SHR is non expendable
the only way I can get all 5 drives to be in an shr is to start all over. which sucks because this is why I set the SHR to begin with!
I have two syno boxes here.
