I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but I’ve done searches both here and via Google and tried the various suggestions I’ve found and I can NOT get Plex to display my Metadata properly.
I’m wanting to migrate my current library from Google Play Music to using Plex instead due to recent changes.
I’ve used Media Monkey to meticulously edit all of my individual MP3’s Metadata over the years to include art. When I set up a new Plex Music Library all of the files displayed the same pixelated artwork thumbnail. I found that there were hidden picture files in the folder that I deleted from the folder and then deleted/re-added my Music Library to Plex again. Then there was no artwork but when I go into individual files within plex I can tell it to “refresh metadata” and then Plex would then properly display for that song. I thought to myself “great, I’ll just refresh metadata for all” which I did and didn’t have any luck. The weird part is that, even after telling it to refresh all data for the library I was able to find some files that still had an option to refresh (most were grayed out after this) and when I told it to refresh the individual file the proper artwork was displayed.
I’ve tried most everything here but what I want should be super basic and probably what most people are looking to do: I want to point Plex to my local folder that has all of my MP3’s and then I want to play and manage playlists from the browser interface and via the Plexamp app. I can’t believe that what should be incredibly simple seems so complex. This is something the Plex should address as it’s likely scaring off lots of people that are just used to other programs they can dump the same file into and have it behave as expected.
What can I do to fix this? I feel like I’m so close and yet so far away at the same time to being able to use Plex to do everything we need it for. I’ve been successful for years now with the media side of Plex with a few caveats but this Music library server is maddening. This is far less complex in theory and should be dead simple since I’m not looking for any advanced features at this point. I just need it to display artwork thumbs and proper track title info.
Does anyone have any thoughts here?
