Plex can't even load a small portion of my library correctly

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: localhost in Chrome

So apparently the only way Plex can “read” a music library is if you organize your folders using the typical “artist/album” method. I use a flatter organizational structure broken out by decade/genre so I don’t need to have 10,000 folders for my 100k+ song library.

I cleared out my library and only imported a small 400 song subset in one folder. Plex only found 2 artists(!) and assigned all of the songs to either artist under their album(s). One of the 2 artist pics was for the wrong artist as well! I don’t even have any Various Artists in this subset. What a mess!

Under Edit Music > Advanced, I even selected “prefer local metadata” and album art “local files only” and unchecked all the artist bio extras, etc.

So, basically, I have access to all my music but Plex ignores all local metadata regardless and does whatever it thinks is best. So I get the wrong album art, wrong artist, wrong album everywhere. Really disappointing considering I recently bought a lifetime subscription.

And you already have found the solution to this issue – even if you don’t like it (nor have to).
With the folder structure you mention and that is documented in the related support article, you can make your Plex Media Server show all your media as expected/required.
