Allow App users to subscribe to a TV Show, Music Artist, Movie Genre, or even a photo album. When new content is added the app notifies users on their phone. Should not be a feature of Plex Cloud.
(perhaps a setting should go further, and allow for automatic download of that new content on wifi or via mobile if app user explicitly agrees to after an overlay explains data usage)
@crazemonkey - features like this, and monitoring general server usage in general, have long been requested many times in various threads. I’m not going to list them all here.
Fortunately, 3rd party developers have put lots of work into making apps that will do this. One is even in the Plex Labs area.
Though Plex Labs listed products aren’t necessarily supported by Plex, Plex thought it was cool enough to list them.
I’d suggest you look into PlexPy (old name, soon coming out as Tautulli). www.tautulli.com
There’s also PlexEmail
Thanks JamminR and The Incredible Machine for the suggestion, I already use PlexPy. I started using it, after getting frustrated with not knowing what was happening on my server.
The feature I am requesting is more for users than “administrators”, so that I don’t have to text or call someone to tell them a new episode of what ever show they watch is on Plex. With this feature, they will just get a notification on their phone.
@crazemonkey - PlexPy has an entire page dedicated to different methods for notifying users of various actions, including new content/tv/movie additions, that occurs on the server.
Though you as an admin set it up and tell it where you want notifications to go, it’s easily configured to go to a notification service/social media site/whatever, tons exist within PlexPy, that users can view what just got added.
PlexEmail is 100% dedicated to sharing new content additions.
Take your pick.
It’s not a feature I see or even necessarily want included in Plex at this time. Too many other things not included already (including the tracking that PlexPy does, aside from the notification capability it can do)
JamminR, I had no idea PlexPy did that. I will take a look now.
I love Plex, but I have been getting concerned that the Plex developers are making a digital Rome, something so large and complex that they can not fully maintain.
