I was under the impression that, since what I was asking for were more tools for administrators to use to admin the server I was making a single request with examples of the tools needed by the administrator to do a comprehensive job. That request was locked, and I was told to post each example as a separate request.
A reliable method WITHIN Plex itself, for notifying the users of the new videos, trending videos, etc. Something they can subscribe to, if they wish, providing email, phone numbers for texting, etc. (Yes I know, PlexNotify, which, sadly can't be run on a vast majority of NAS servers out there.)
Yes, I know PlexNotify can handle a lot of this functionality. Unfortunately, not everyone is running their server on Windows, FreeNAS or Mac. For those of us using NAS's of various makes that Plex has been ported to, we are left out to dry for this functionality. This SHOULD be a core part of Plex Media Server from the get-go anyway. How do our users know what shows we have for them to watch without going through a scrolling mass of movies or TV shows to find what they might be interested in.
As I rip my collection and add to my server's content, for those that subscribe to the service on my server, they would get an email, text or notification of new content on their client software. (Not sure if recently added shows up for everyone on a shared server? don't believe so...)
Totally on it, it's also true that probably we know the people we share our libraries with. Although it would be a nice feature and I think not even that hard to implement.
you have my vote/ :)
After you rip your media do you rename it manually to a "plex friendly" name?
Or do you use one of the automated file renamers (like filebot)?
Filebot has the ability to send announcements as it renames and moves the file to your plex folders using several methods.
This is an additional piece of software.
As Plex Marketing is now aiming it's sights on more home users and less the technophile, these extra pieces, apps, etc are going to be more problems than the average user is going to want to go through... Consider the numbers of people already posting about "I want my money back" stuff over PS3/4, Xbox, Smart TV's and the like.
Plex is aimed at sharing media. So set that sight on notifying our users the newest additions, trending shows and movies on your server, etc.
This constant reliance on these other applications to handle Plex's shortcomings is a recipe for disaster, in the long term. Plex came about because of shortcomings in XBMC.
Yes it's another piece of software, but until plex chooses to include such functionality I thought I would mention another way to accomplish sending notifications as plexnotiy wasn't something you could incorporate.
I was merely giving you another option.
Further, if you have an android device you can install nuVue for a price.
It has the ability to send notifications to anyone you share your server with (no software is needed on the PMS)
I guess my point is, yes it would be great if Plex did it all and did it right now.
But if you want a feature NOW, there are generally other ways to get it (most of the time).
