I’m getting really frustrated with Plex, I’ve been requesting help since 9-13-23 for a solution/suggestion for why my PMS app has been shutting down.
Again on 10-01-23 having updated 3 times since this started.
I’ve now updated to Server Version#: 1.32.7.7571 (direct download from Plex site) and it is still happening. Today it happened sometime during the afternoon to evening.
@dbirch helped me out (thank you) and I thought they might be on to something with Transcoding and Scheduled Tasks so I turned off every scheduled task before the latest update and it still happened. Updated to Version#: 1.32.7.7571 left all Scheduled Tasks unchecked and it happened again.
Can someone help me figure this out? I commute out of state and can not get the logs right after it shuts down (don’t automatically know when it shuts down until a family member tries to watch something then texts me it’s down and I’m usually out of state at the time).
5 years no problem (no change to hardware) 1 month in 2023 now daily
The last thing it appears to be doing before the most recent crash in the logs is performing intro detection for a couple of CSI: Miami episodes (S01E07 and S01E08), which were apparently recorded from the DVR (.ts files).
Disabling items in the scheduled tasks settings does not eliminate all maintenance tasks. There are some library tasks (credit detection, intro detection, ad detection) which are still run, depending on server library settings.
Try setting the following to “never.”
Settings → [Server] → Library → Generate intro video markers
Settings → [Server] → Library → Generate credits video markers
There could be some problems with certain recorded files which are causing issues leading to the crashes.
Thank you @pshanew I will try that.
I did just notice (after reading your response) my MCEBuddy was not running to convert any .ts files to mp4 since windows did an update for security fixes (Usually it’s running to shrink the shows that my mother records from OTA) here’s to this being the problem this whole time
@pshanew you might be on to something! No shut down of the server today. I ran MCEBuddy, cleaned up any .ts files and no new shutdown.
I am reinstating one scheduled task at a time each day to see if any shutdowns happen.
Cool. Passing it through MCEBuddy may clean up whatever is choking Plex. Plex can be pretty sensitive to container issues so even the process of just remuxing it might help.
