I am having a weird variation of this that I’m only seeing for the first time tonight. There is a movie currently transcoding at a very lazy pace (a 1 second chunk every 20 seconds or so, and using hardly any CPU) but Plex/Tautuli show nothing is happening. Looking at network traffic through my firewall shows no one can be watching what it’s transcoding.
None of my users are allowed to download or create optimized versions or anything (nor did I set one off.) If I go into the Console page in the server settings, I see it transcoding the pieces but I have no idea what triggered it to do so.
As I get new Plex server updates, I keep watching to see if this is fixed. I know family members watch different videos, but when I look at the play history, not everything is there.
I would have hoped that in the 20 months since the 1st post about this issue that the Plex team could have found some time for a substantive response.
How can we have confidence that there isn’t a massive security hole in the software when media is being accessed remotely without leaving a single fingerprint? Surely this should raise alarm bells in the Plex organisation?
I am also seeing this behavior. I have a user that I can see watching movies on the Dashboard, and their play history is recording their time correctly, but their history does not show the movies as ever being played.
I have the same issue. I would see someone watching movies on the Dashboard and then it does not appear on their play history. What I notice is that when they don’t finish the movie, it does not appear. The only movies that appear in the user history are the movies they finished.
I’m seeing remote network activity but nothing is showing as currently being played and the play history doesn’t always match up with the amount of data logged in the bandwidth section on the dash.
I’ve just installed Tautulli as that seems to log all plays while plex only tends to log things that have been watched to the end but I’m starting to worry that someone has access to my server.
Strangely when checking task manager to verify the network use, the bandwidth then dropped straight after.
