Sorry this is 10-bit H264 – one of those “I just saw a good example of this…” and then you realize you can only test it in direct play on a Fire Stick 4K/MAX.
Here’s another test file in HEVC, and here you can see an issue with alpha channel or blur effect that makes sign masking not as seamless as it should be…
Hello, I just tested Manga with ASS subtitles and it doesn’t transcode at all
I use a shield pro and I did a remote test with a shield pro too, but in the dashboard at home it is in direct reading, and at my friends it is marked transcoding, but it happens to fast forward with no problem.
Sixones has previously mentioned we are not at a point of being able to get subtitles to work at the level of frame-exact timing.
@sixones I just discovered this thread, so was there any updates (maybe elsewhere) on this? Is there even work going on to try and get frame-exact timing, or is it a low priority thing?
Thanks in advance.
It’s something I definitely want to do, but it’s tricky to implement as we rely on the devices decoder to render frames in newer Android versions. I also need to move the blending of the ASS images into the GPU which is time consuming.
I’m hoping to improve thing’s in the new year and get ASS rendering as close to the video rendering as possible.
Updates on this would be appreciated. I like how the app plays even heavier typesetting (on capable devices) but the delay is really unfortunate. Kind of sucks how every app on Android and iOS/tvOS has this very issue (other than mpv) and getting this somehow fixed could be so satisfying.
No updates and probably there won’t be any anytime soon. There’s another thread on the forum where people asked for option to customise skip forward/back button and soon there we’ll be 9 years anniversary of that thread and nothing has been done. If you think that if they couldn’t handle such a simple request like customised time of the ship forward button but will sort out something more sophisticated like ASS subtitles issue then you’re in for a surprise.
If not for my family and nephew watching animated movies I would ditch Plex while ago as Infuse on my Apple TV meets all my needs and handle all formats of video and subs without any problems.
heh, and I get notified whenever anyone links to that post… please, I’m blushing that my humble little 9 year old feature enhancement is now used as an example of how Plex wants to shove more non-core cough “stuff” (Tidal integration - who asked for it? Plex Live TV with ads - who asked for it? Et Cetera) rather than adding small, simple feature requests to what used to be their core product: making software that allowed users, many of whom have paid hundreds of dollars for Plex Pass, to simply watch their personal media files, anywhere you had internet.
