It’s been bugging me for a while, but has anyone else had issues with the Nvidia Shield client (Android)? There are two issues with the client that have been around for a few months that I hoped would go away, but haven’t so far.
- When browsing by Library, when I look at a movie then hit “Back” to return to the library list, it almost inevitably scrolls up to somewhere in the “A” section of my list. No matter which item I select, when returning to the Library list from an item it always scrolls to near (but not AT) the top of the list. Makes it frustrating to look for something to watch when I need to scroll back down every time.
-To make it worse, when i then go to the alphabet bar on the right to select the letter I was just at, the client seems to think I am already AT that letter, and pressing “Select” does nothing. I need to scroll up or down one letter then back to my selected letter before the UI updates correctly.
-This happens even without entering the movie page itself. If I hold-press “select” on the item to get the mini menu and “Add to Watchlist”, it also scrolls the entire library list back to near the top. - Second issue is when browsing a movie or show’s entry. Something seems to cause the UI to refresh itself randomly. If I am scrolling a long horizontal list of actors, the page will flicker, and move my selector back to near the start of the list. This can happen multiple times in a row, separated by 3-4 seconds each time. Even if I don’t scroll, the page will refresh and reset my selector.
-Relatedly, this can happen when scrolling through a horizontal list of episodes in a show. I may be highlighting episode 6, and suddenly the page flickers and the selector is on episode 3
I’d been hoping this all was a temporary bug, but the longer it sits, the more I wonder if it’s simply not reported to the Plex team. I force-killed the app many times, and also rebooted the shield entirely several times, but that doesn’t seem to fix this issue. I cannot reliably reproduce the issue either, so I can’t confirm (at this point) if the reboot fixed it for a time or not.
Mostly, I am posting this to see if anyone else has noticed these oddities with the Shield client. It’s a popular client, so I would expect at least a few of you all to have some experience with it and can tell me if this issue is more wide-spread, or perhaps just an issue with my own install or hardware.
I got it back to normal by clearing the cache in the shield settings for the plex app. Alphabetical seems to be the trigger.
