NVIDIA Shield Direct Play of HD resolution movie goes unavailable after 10 minutes playback

Just watched another movie tonight, (HD resolution), The Big Sick, which I had converted to Opus previously and the screen display informed me was being direct played. About 10 minutes in the movie, the playback stopped and the movie was listed as unavailable (in addition to seemingly all my other movies). Rebooted the shield, it started back up where we left off, and then 10 minutes later the same thing happened. We finished watching it on Amazon streaming instead. There were no errors or stuttering before the problem like my original issues, do you think this is related?

Additionally I watched another HD movie in the last week, Fate of the Furious, with Opus audio, also showing as direct play, and had no issues.

Thanks!

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-01-05_22-25-05.zip (2.5 MB)
Shield Log.txt (3.4 MB)

Thanks for the logs but it actually is nothing to do with this forum topic which is about transcoding and not direct playing. I will move the posts into a separate topic and respond there

The logs show Direct Play for this file
/storage/DAVYJONES/Movies/Watch One Time/The Big Sick (2017).mkv
During playback the Plex Media Server process was terminated and server restarted - and following one of these the actual mounted media became unavailable

At 19:53:33 at playback position of about 3 minutes - server got restarted
At 19:57:31 at playback position of about 7 minutes - access to the mounted media was lost
At 19:59:16 server was restarted
At 20:05:37 at playback position of about 10 minutes - server got restarted
Shield was still playing buffered content
At 20:09:07 it was noticed that access to the mounted media was lost

It is possible that the memory issues we have seen when hardware transcoding may be arising for Direct Play

Would need a clip from the mkv file to try and reproduce the problem

Where is this /storage/DAVYJONES/ ? is it a NAS ? external usb storage?

I presume you were not restarting the server and it just happened

So please see if you can look into providing a clip - of say the first 10 minutes of the mkv. You can use tools like mkvtoolnix

Thanks

Hi sa2000 - sorry for the long delay in response. Life is busy with a toddler!

Long story short, I have not had any issues lately with Plex on Shield. I added a USB stick to the shield and now use that as the OS disk so there are not as many space constraints. This seems to have fixed my issues with playback. Load times are pretty slow now, up to 10 seconds of loading when starting a Blu-ray, but that seems to be a result of using the USB, which has to be slower than the built in memory.

Thanks for the support, I will get back in touch if anything happens, let me know if you need anything from me (if logs would help close this up from a knowledge perspective).

Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback -

For info 1.14.1.5490 has just been released to overcome issue of losing the server if the application data is moved to user accessible internal storage or external storage
