I am currently running my plex server on a Nvidia Shield with an external Seagate 6Tb harddrive plugged in and was thinking of investing in a lower end NAS server to put my harddrives in. Would you think it’d be better to continue using the Nvidia Shield as my plex server, or use the NAS itself?
What would have more transcoding power etc?
I understand i haven’t actually specified a NAS in particular, as haven’t really looked too much into them, but was looking at a synology or similar.
If I currently have a server and all it’s metadata on my shield (500GB) but want to upgrade to a new shield (2019 version. Am I able to start a server on my NAS, host the metadata there and use the power of the shield to play everything? I want the fastest tech to run anything that needs power and currently my thoughts were that the shield had to run everything and read my library off the NAS?
