PLEX on my NAS and NVIDIA Shield TV

This may be a dumb question, but …… up till now I have used PLEX on my NAS (Seagate Personal Cloud) to manage my media, and used the PLEX app on my phone or ipad to access it or cast to my tv. I’ve just bought an NVIDIA Shield, which comes with the PLEX Media Server (and so much other stuff it’s a bit overwhelming). The Shield has more RAM and should be a better server ( I imagine?) than the NAS. So do I have to delete, or disable, the PLEX on the Seagate NAS ? Will there be conflicts ? Is there any reason for me to keep PLEX on the NAS. For now at least, I will leave my media on the Seagate drive but I imagine the best option would be to eventually get another (inevitably larger) external hard drive for the NVIDIA ?

I’d think that the Shield is a better, more powerful server than a NAS although I guess it depends on your NAS box. I run Plex Server on the Shield and it does a superb job, serving various mobile devicesFireTVs etc and the Shield also acts as a Plex Client so I have it playing directly via HDMI to my main 4K TV. If you choose to use the Shield as your server then deactivate the server on your NAS. As for media storage there’s no reason why you shouldn’t keep your files on the NAS and the Shield can read them straight from there. In my setup I just have three drives plugged directly via a USB 3 hub into the shield but I don’t currently own a NAS box. To move media into (or off) the Shield drives I have the FTP Server app running on the shield and Filzilla FTP on my iMAC which makes life very easy. Perhaps you could use your NAS to backup your Shield drives going forward?

Use Shield as your PMS and leave plex on your NAS as a back up.
I have PMS on 3 shields, 2 PC’s and 2 NA so at times I have had 8 servers!
And as JF above states use the NAS for your media and just point the shield to it.

The Shields have had some buggy updates ( both nvidia and plex) lately but generally make a pretty good server

thanks guys. I did have some trouble getting the PLEX web app to find the new server at first but eventually got it sorted out.
