nVidia Shield Plex Player issues

Receiving multiple issues when playing the first video after launching Plex. Here are the steps and the results.

  1. Launch Plex
  2. Hit Play on a video
  3. Spinning access disc for an extremely long time followed by black screen
  4. I hit back to go back to plex menu and select Play on the video again
  5. I get audio only with just a black screen
  6. I hit back to go back to plex menu once again, then select Play on the same video again
  7. Video and Audio play this time only Audio is out of synch by about half a second.
  8. One final hit of back button then Play on the same video
  9. Video eventually plays without error.

This seems to be happening regularly the first time i launch Plex after sleep mode or having watched Netflix or something else. Subsequent videos after the first will play fine.

The server is functioning fine as running Plex on my Apple TV plays the videos fine first time, i don’t get the black screen or audio synch issues mentioned above.

switch to the classic player in your settings on the player app fixes most issues (not all)

That won’t help when the old player goes away though. We’d rather fix any outstanding issues before we remove the old player. :slight_smile:

Solution: Don’t take away the old player. I still cannot believe that Plex is pushing out such a buggy player as the default with each app update. For those who accidentally update, go to Apkmirror and grab a version of the app that still allows you to choose your own version of the player.

The old player will be going away, it’s just a question of when. Telling people not to update isn’t very helpful :man_shrugging:

the older version used to go back to where you were in the menu when backing out of the video. now no matter which player you use i get the gray screen and have to hit back again and start all over again in the default starting when you load the app.
