Nvidia Shield Plex server & Roku client compatibility issue

Server Version#: NVIDIA Shield
Player Version#: Roku Ultra

Hi. I’ve been using Plex for years but got tired of my WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra having trouble steaming my full Blu ray quality mkv files.

So I just bought an NVIDIA shield to fix this issue. So I think I fixed my mkv streaming issue but I created a new issue.

Now my Roku won’t play nicely with this new Plex server (see attached).

Any thoughts???

Thanks!

Hello All,

Quick update. The Nvidia Shield is new to me, but I figured out how to update the Plex Server software rev of the Shield. So I got past this error.

That was the good news. Now my Roku Ultra is up and running again.

The other partial good news is now my Roku Ultras seem to stream maybe 1/2 my mkv files now.

The bad news is 1/2 my mkv files on my Roku Ultras struggle to play.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience with an Nvidia Shield as a Plex server and a Roku Ultra as a Plex client I would be interested in any feedback or thoughts.

Thanks!

Is your Roku and Shield wired or on wifi? What are the specs of the videos that struggle (audio codec, bitrate, etc)?

I’d bet its a wifi bandwidth issue or you’re being forced to transcode. Run a wifi test on your roku and your Shield to see what speeds you are seeing for up and down. Make sure your settings on your roku and shield server allow for direct streaming. Make sure the roku is recognizing your Shield as a local connection and is not routing the traffic in a bad way.
