Using Nvidia shield with hauppauge error on Roku

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

When I go to start a live TV session or watch any of my recorded shows all of my Roku tv’s will load or buffer up to 33% then hang until they error out. I can however watch on my apple devices. This just started happening when I upgraded to the latest media server for plex on Nvidia shield….

Please help

Thanks

I came up with the fix which I do feel is kind of a joke…. I downgraded plex media sever through side loading on my Nvidia shield. I can now watch live tv on the Roku tvs once again!!

Why is Plex releasing updates to brake there own product it makes no since to ruin what a great little set up they have built…. Why??

Roku works on Live TV with the latest PMS. The problem is the Android platform and everything Plex on Android is broken. Including the Shield.

Not sure about live TV but I have Roku, Android and Web clients in our house and Roku is consistently more problematic than either Android or Web.

That’s simply not the general consensus in these forums. Considering the OP is running PMS on an Android and has issues tells it all.

If you take this quote from the OP “when I upgraded to the latest media server for plex on Nvidia shield” it tells the whole story that the problem didn’t start UNTIL an UPGRADE of PMS on what? The NVIDIA SHIELD… which is what? Android.

I’ll see myself out now.

lol, defensive much? You may not realize this but there is a difference in client, server, hardware and core OS (any of these could break the entire flow). You confusing these I think is part of your generalization.

The Nvidia shield has its own software beyond just Android which is why in the most recent upgrade to the Shield they dropped the ball and hence required a hotfix (I was one of the people who needed it) to correct broken behavior with NAS setup. The Shield experience software is beyond core Android (also separate from the client or PMS software) which is why my Android TVs continued to work like a champ as they usually do (so did my mobile client - also Android) even though things broke with the Shield update.

My comment was in response to your generalization and not the OP issue which - obviously - if the only thing you change is the PMS version then Occam’s razor leads you to looking at the PMS update itself which even that could be platform or shared depending on the amount of code shared between the platform implementations of the PMS.

Are you sure? There isn’t dedicated Plex server software for The Nvidia Shield like there is for Linux/Windows for example. It’s the same Android client software everything else uses.

Try to stay on topic, your broken NAS setup has nothing to do with this topic but has everything to do with why everything Plex on Android is broken. Just another example of why Plex needs to focus on their Android software more.

Roku works on my platform just fine using the latest server software which breaks it down to what the software is sitting on… which is what? Android.

Yeah, I am sure. Your mistaken about there not being separate software. The PMS and Plex client are different things and you can see this if you look at the installed APKs (you need to look at the system APKs to see the PMS). You can also see this when updating in the play store as the client and the server are different updates.

My response is on topic to your generalized, inaccurate and personally biased statement so my clarification is for others seeing this thread and less to convince you since you seem pretty entrenched which is fine. As an engineer for 20+ years (including Android) your “It works for me” response doesn’t really mean anything since every platform will have people who have a flawless experience (the fun part about bugs is that they are often inconsistent) and people who have nothing but trouble.

In my house the software works fine except for the Roku device so by your logic it’s clear that it must mean Roku is broken and Android is fine. You say Plex needs to work on Android - if you really look at these forums its pretty clear they need to work on all the platform implementations since they all seem busted in one way or another.

Plex Media Server on SHIELD is integrated with the Plex media player app. ← This is exactly what the Nvidia site says. There is no separate download file for PMS on the Shield. This is apparent by looking at https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server. But as an engineer for 20+ years you already knew this.

But back to the original post. The Roku app works with Live TV using the latest PMS using Hauppauge tuners so your best bet is to use the real server software instead of the buggy Android software if that’s possible for you.

Good lord - your just determined to spread BS to folks. Here, I went and did the research you are unwilling to do for yourself.

Here are some pics from my Shield. Note the two different installs. Note the two different versions. I can update them individually - because they are different things. When I first setup Plex I actually made the mistake of updating Plex client and not the server.

Stop confusing people by spouting BS about things you don’t understand.

So what you’re saying is the Nvidia site is wrong. mmkay. That has nothing to do with the Android platform being broken.

Mainly I am saying the information you were spewing about the Android PMS being bundled with client was wrong (which I just proved) in response to your generalizations about Android being the core issue in the ecosystem and not the Plex software ecosystem in general. Additionally, since clearly you are neither trying to be objective or informed I don’t think your the best source in terms of troubleshooting / guidance. Not saying I am an authority or anything but least I can be objective about what’s wrong.

My first comment still stands. The Android platform is the worst to use for Plex and has been for over a year. This is the general consensus of the forum. Every single time they release something on Android something else breaks.

Nice camera work though.
