Nvidia Shield PRO won't play PGS subs on MKV files?

Hi,

I’ve recently gotten the new Nvidia Shield PRO with the Plex app.

Everything works fine besides this: I can play external SRT subtitles without any problems, but I can’t see or select internal (PGS) subtitles when playing Bluray MKV files, that I am in fact able to see and use when I open the same file on my pc in VLC Media Player.

Anyone got a solution to be able to use PGS subs?

Can you see/select the subtitles with any other Plex client?

I’ve never had an issue with PGS subtitles and the Shield.

I tried it on my Iphone Plex app and no, it also doesn’t show anything other than the external SRT. On my desktop in VLC media player it does show other internal subtitles, namely SDH which comes in handy for watching with hearing impared people.

Then the problem is not with the Shield.

Is the problem with all MKVs with PGS subtitles or only with a one or a few movies? Basically, wondering if the problem is with Plex Media Server or with the media itself (it could still be damaged somehow even if it plays in VLC).

Examine the file with MediaInfo. Does it recognize the subtitle track?

Are the subtitles listed in Plex’s Media Info window? Look in the right column, scroll to bottom.

As a test, try 2D Forced Subtitles Sample #2 (PGS) from Kodi Samples. Place it in an “Other Videos” library so Plex won’t try to match it with any online sources.

It plays fine on my 2015 Shield Pro (direct play) and in Plex Web (transcoded/burned in).
