No, in this case I have a playlist with a bunch of shows on it. It played 2 episodes and at the end of the second one it looks like it restarted that episode but left me on a black screen with no sound.
If I check the Plex dashboard it says I’m still playing the episode and it’s streaming but I can’t see or hear anything unless I seek forward/backwards or change episodes.
If you’d like I can try and record a video of this happening.
@anon18523487 Network logging was turned on. How else am I supposed to get logging from Android TV?
In the settings of the Plex app on your shield it says what address to go to on the bottom on the screen
@anon18523487 Here you go. I made it through 2 short shows then it “froze” when attempting to start the 3rd.

Got it.
Ok, so both of your logs are showing similar activities. The player thinks it’s playing, which is why you see a blank screen and why it looks like it was playing. I have enough info to pass along to the devs.
Just want to note that I have the same issue on multiple clients, not only on Nvidia Shield (Android app on multiple different tablets, and also Android TV on Mi Box S). Hope a fix will be available ASAP, good luck devs!
I’m experiencing the same thing on a 2017 Nvidia Shield. An episode or movie will end, I’ll be shown a black screen, and that screen will persist for a very long time (sometimes over an hour) until finally moving on to the next episode (or returning back to the movie information page).
Oddly enough, if I press the fast forward button on my remote, the episode that just finished will start again 30 seconds in (from the fast forward). It’s almost like it’s replaying the same episode without audio or video and rewinding or fast forwarding takes it out of this.
Worth noting as well that this doesn’t happen every time. It will sometimes play 2 or 3 episodes back to back normally before that black screen appears.
Running on latest software on 2017 Shield Pro with the 500GB drive. If I start an episode and let it finish, it goes to the countdown screen, counts down starts the next episode and apparently pauses it. If I do nothing I see the first frame of whatever show until I press the center button which brings up the play head and it is paused. Pressing the center button starts it and repeats the cycle again once the episode is over.
It’s only started doing this the past 2 - 3 weeks maybe.
On my AppleTV client, it’ll continue to play the next episodes like it should. So I don’t think it’s a server issue.
Almost 3 months and still nothing?
Would appreciate any progress updates on this issue.
thanks.
Still nothing fixed
I’m also experiencing this issue… I’m running a Nvidia Shield Pro and noticed it the past month or so.
I am also having g this issue. This socks, are they even looking at this? I know the team member said he was going to pass it on, but this is taking way too long to get a fix…
but this is taking way too long to get a fix…
There are plenty of bugs here that are well over a year old, so I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was you. Plex clearly has no desire to support their product or make sure that it works as intended.
Good thing emby works
Oh Look… another issue I have with plex… added to my other one wherer the reccomomended no longer words for the tv section…
I’m having this issue as well on shield. Is it possibly tied to the intro detection for TV series?
One related bug I’ve had is that it goes to the black screen and the Skip Intro button pops up, and when I press skip intro, it goes to the appropriate post-intro section of the episode I JUST finished watching
Right, I think that’s part of the issue. It’s not taking you to the post-play screen or starting the next episode; it’s replaying the same episode you just watched but there is no video/audio.
I’ve been experiencing this on my Android tablet for at least 2-3 months.
I have exactly the same problem with 3 different nvidia shield Tv, 2-3 months is long with such a bug. I hope for a solution soon.
Plex won’t even reply in this thread. They are just ignoring it.
