For at least a few versions now, but continuing with 8.1.0.17759, when playing an episode on Android it works fine. However, when it reaches the end of the episode and goes to the next, frequently (but not every time), it will load the same episode and start “playing” but it’s stuck on the first frame of the video and has no sound, instead of advancing to and playing the next video as it should (after the countdown).
Files are all fine and upon backing out and playing the next file manually, it will work just fine. The countdown screen shows the next episode correctly, it just doesn’t advance correctly nor play the file it should. See here for more reports of similar issues: Reddit - Dive into anything
Casting does not seem to be effected, as if I’m casting the videos to a TV with Chromecast (Gen 2), it will continue on as it should.
These logs I posted for another issue should have some examples of it not loading properly:
I’ve also noticed that if I pause the video and come back to it, sometimes the video resumes playing, but hangs on the same frame I paused (with sound continuing to advance). It might take a bit to catch up and start actually playing the video again. If I back out of the video and start it from where I left off, it picks up just fine. These two things might be related.
Happy to provide additional info, just let me know.
Same problem on 8.1.0.17797. The episode ends and it just loops back to the start, but plays nothing (the timeline on the bottom moves as if it is playing, though). It completely skips the countdown to next episode. More logs attached.
I’ve been going back and trying older versions to see where this issue started. I just tried 8.0.1.17410 and I’m having the same issue. See attached two files:
This file shows that the “next” screen comes up after an episode finishes, but it does not have a countdown and does not autoplay.
This file shows the black screen issue, where Plex skips over the “next” screen entirely and just goes into “playing” a black screen.
I’m also attaching some more current logs from both of these, to try and help. Can someone at least acknowledge this issue is being looked at?
I’ve been running 7.31.0.16802 almost all day and haven’t had this issue once. It would seem somewhere between release 7.31.0.16802 and 8.0.0.17276, things have broken.
I have not yet tried 8.1.0.17966-beta, but since no one has even acknowledged this problem yet and the notes don’t indicate any kind of fix, I’m not holding my breath.
@jesusmc or can someone please acknowledge this ongoing problem? Is anyone looking into this?
@BigWheel, can you acknowledge this? No one seems to want to acknowledge. It randomly just loads the same video it finished but doesn’t actually play it. I’ve already sent logs, other people are seeing this behavior… can we get some acknowledgement here, please?
I and other have been trying to reproduce this for the past couple weeks but can’t. I know you already provided logs for an older version but can you please get logs for whatever version you are using now. the corresponding server logs may help as well.
It just did it again with 8.3.0.18893-beta. I’m attaching logs from client and server.
There is no pattern to when it does it that I can see. Sometimes it can go quite a while, maybe 4-5+ episodes without an issue, but this time it did it the first attempt to advance (i.e., after the first episode played, it jumped back to the start and just did a blank screen count up).
Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.
I can confirm this is happening again in 8.3.0.18912 although it was working in 8.2.0
The symptom is basically that the show will freeze on the last frame and not go to the next episode. If you pull up the controls you can see that the episode has not changed and the timer has started from the beginning and is counting as if it’s playing the episode but there is no sound and the picture is the last frame still. If you manually skip to the next episode it seems to work.
This had been happening since 8.0 and it then seemed to be fixed in 8.2 and is now broken in 8.3 again.
