I have passthru enabled and it doesnt work
To fix my issue I had go to Settings > Transcoder > Transcoder temporary directory, create a new directory (r:\plex in my case), restart the agent, and done, problem solved
Also having similar issue on NVIDIA Shield, testing as below
Fixes/Workarounds
- NVIDIA Shield Plex App > Settings > Burn Subtitles > Only Image Formats (Change subtitle size to Huge and enable Ignore included subtitle styling)
- When playing media step through the convoluted process below
a. Before playing > Playback Settings > Set Subtitle to None
b. Play Media > Set Media quality to Convert Automatically
c. Subtitle > Select Subtitle
d. Video > Set Media Quality to Play Original Quality
Works for TV shows when skipping to the next Episode too - Android Phone Plex App had no issues playing same media
- Casting to NVIDIA Shield
What didn’t work
- Playing video as normal
- Deleting content inside Codecs Folder > Restarting Plex Docker Container
- Changing Transcoding settings on the server
Definitely only having this issue with content with subtitles enabled from the start, unsure if it’s just embedded subtitle or also external subtitles. All of my subtitles are text based, so workaround above may not work for SVG/vector based subtitles. Haven’t had an issue with movies but tend to start them without any subtitles, and only enable if needed.
Same problem here with all Android devices.
Unable to play movies with .ass subtitles. I have to force burning subs to be able to play those videos.
Play smoothly :
Xbox series X
Windows Plex client
MacBook pro
iPhone 12
Doesn’t play at all :
Galaxy Tab S7
Galaxy S21 Ultra
Nvidia Shield
Plex server hosted on Synology DS918+, and errors since last update.
Edit : everything went fine since I rolled back to previous android version of APK.
Same issue here. Started a fews days ago but just noticed it today. Subtitle workarounds dont work. This is actually an EAC3 audio issue, not a subtitle one. Any files with EAC3 audio fail to play. In the past when this happened with EAC3 you could find an actual ERROR in the log that would point to the issue and then a simple deletion of the codec folder and restart would fix it. For this new issue, there is no ERROR, only warnings and the warning is:
“Caught exception trying to convert extra data attribute ‘originallyAvailableAt’ with type 1 and value ‘2021-10-17’ ~ bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target”
Followed by:
[Transcode] Got a request to stop a transcode session without a valid session GUID.
It’s at this point, the error occurs.
Note that as a test, I tried playing my copies of breaking bad where I have the standard audio track (EAC3) and a second commentary track (AC3). If I switch to the AC3 commentary track, the file plays on the Shield. If I switch back to EAC3, it fails to play with that warning.
Update:
After further testing, Video files with EAC3 audio work fine so long as the video encoding is NOT HEVC/h265. The pattern I’ve found so far is:
-
Any video encode NOT H265 = works
-
H265 + Non EAC3 audio = works
-
H265 + EAC3 = error
I have the same issue, and
add; many videos when you fast forward, player plays at 2x speed… will not play at normal speed untill you start over…
video this happens in:
VIDEO 1080p (H.264)
AUDIO English (AAC Stereo)
Caught exception trying to convert extra data attribute ‘originallyAvailableAt’ with type 1 and value ‘2010-07-19’ ~ bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target
[Transcode/3f487e33ed829f2c-com-plexapp-android] [FFMPEG] - Cannot load nvcuda.dll
shield pro 8.24.0.28408
server Version 1.24.4.5081
Nvidia shield pro, also problem with playback.
If I direct play it works, the moment I turn on transcoding, I get the message below in the logs:
[Transcode] Got a request to stop a transcode session without a valid session GUID
I am having the same issue with my shield.
My NVIDIA Shield Plex and my Android Phone Plex app are not working, both appear to be something with the transcoding.
Xbox One X and Windows are working as intended.
Can confirm that this version works for me
Try to transcode, it should fail…
Same exact issue here. Help!
i was talking about the version in the post i replied to, the 8.25.0.28473 version i do have issues with.
Sorry to hijack the post, but at the same time this problem started happening, the issue where AAC 7.1 audio causes the video to skip also came back for me (see my old post about it). The problem described in this thread has been fixed for me, but the old issue remains, and I was really happy when it was fixed some time ago. I’m happy to help devs with debug logs if needed.
For those tracking this thread, the latest update 8.25.0.28665 appears to have solved the issue for me on both my Shield Pro and my Pixel 4a. Content with ASS and SRT subs seems to play again without problems.
Since a week ago, I am experiencing the same issues for Plex on NVIDIA Shield. The problem appears to be really quirky. All movies are playing fine, regardless of audio and video codecs. However, some TV shows hang, and I have not yet gotten down to investigating whether there is any pattern in audio and video codecs.
Plex on webOS for my LG TV and on Android for my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus works fine. Strangely, when I try to cast a TV show from this phone to the NVIDIA Shield, it hangs, but when I disconnect, the show continues playing.
Also, all my Plex software and apps are using the latest available versions, but the problem persists.
Reading through this thread, I will next try to uninstall and re-install Plex on my NVIDIA Shield. Fingers crossed this works.
