Can’t play certain files on my Shield although I was able play them just a few days ago. Looks like my Plex Player was just updated yesterday, 10/13, so i’m thinking that may be the problem?
No issues playing those same files on my desktop or android phone.
Same issue since player update yesterday. Get error check connection but not for all movies.
Hi, i have the same problem on my shield with last plex server update. I have found the problem occur when pathtrouth hmdi is on with video with subtitle activated, if you disable pathtrouth, the problem is not présent, can you confirm that ?
I’ll try that later today, i was able to fix it with one movie last night by disabling subtitles before i even started the movie. I’m also going to upload some logs later when i remember.

It’s certainly subtitles (embedded) causing this (turn on while in playback and it immediately fails); 90% of what I have is currently unwatchable >_<
Everything works fine using the player on my Sony TV (Google tv OS). Shield…nada

I should note, that I don’t have a LG TV or webOS device.
Same issue. This feels very much like the issue with embedded subs we had a year or so ago. That took ages to fix because Plex couldn’t reproduce the issue. I hope this doesn’t take as long.
Until it is fixed, I’ve used Aptoide to downgrade to version 8.23.something, which allows me to play stuff with embedded subs again and turned off automatic app updates on my Shield.

What’s Aptoide and how do I get it
I too had the same issue. My plex would not play back anything on the server from one day to the next.
I went from version 8.25.028473 to 8.25.028426 to resolve the issue.
I am also getting this error on Shield TVs. If I change the settting and have it auto convert it will play the file but during playback the file will act as if it was fast forwarding in sections for 5-10 seconds stop and playback will continue as normal and the cycle will repeat off and on until the end of the files playback. All other players work normally.
I had to uninstall updates to the Plex app on my Shield and then installed apk version 8.25.0.28426. Everything seems to be working now so hopefully the next app update fixes it for good.

Same here Chromecast TV but only seems to affect mediafiles with EAC3 Audio codec.
Became an issue after oct 15 update.

I have determined that enabling HDMI passthrough corrects the issue for me, but i didn’t have to do that before the latest update.
