I am one frustrated Plex / shield tv pro user now. I am hoping some one can help me out. Recently I have encountered my shield tv app all freezing and will not open I am not able to open Netflix or Prime . After a lot of troubleshooting i narrowed the problem was due to the Plex and plex media server on my shield Tv . Once I uninstall the plex client and media server everything is back to normal . I tried factory resetting my shield tv but as soon as I install the plex client and media server nothing works . The only thing that works is plex . I love plex but I also need Netflix and prime . I am not sure what is causing this issue .
Disable the plex server in the settings of the Plex client. Then uninstall the server from the shield.
Hi Thank you for your reply but I am confused . To be clear I do want to use plex as well as the other apps . by disabling plex server and uninstall the server from the shield I will not be able to use plex and media server on my shield Tv. Please advise
You will be able to use the Plex client on your Shield.
If you want to have your own Plex server, you will have to use a more powerful device to host it. e.g. a desktop PC or a powerful NAS device.

You can use the client alone to access the free movies and tv shows which are offered through plex.tv https://watch.plex.tv/
Only if you also want to access your own media files, you need to have your own Plex server as well.
Thank you for your response . As shield Tv has its own Plex media server logically it should work , are you saying that hosting a media server on my shield Tv is not not recommended?
I would not recommend it.
The Shield is simply not powerful enough to serve as a fully blown Plex server. You might get away with it, if your media collection is very small, and if you disable some of Plex’s features.
Thank you for your response . It’s as if something is running or progressing in the background constantly or at times that is preventing the other apps from running or even opening . It looks like the background processing that could be related to a Plex feature i causing this. I would appreciate if you could let me know what feature would possibly cause this to happen?
I’d disable pretty much anything on
Settings - Server - ‘Show Advanced’ - Library
that has a name starting with “Analyze…” or “Generate…”
“Marker Source” to “only online”.
But still, if you have a lot of media this may not be enough to make the server run sufficiently well on the Shield.
