I just bought an Nvidia Sheild TV because I’d read it’s the best for streaming 4k/UHD from my home network. And when I can finally get my Plex server to loan on the Shield TV Plex app, it does play UDH movies without a hitch. However, it’s very difficult to loan the server interface…sometimes it never fully loads my thumbnails, I’m only getting A-C as I write this.
Just to state the obvious, yes, my Shield Plex app is up to date, and no, I cannot run the Shield Plex app as its own server because there is little internal storage and I have 6-7 TB’s of media on my home server.
I have read your post several times and I think I have got it .
U have a shield 16gb as your plex client.
Your server whatever it may be streams nicely to your shield.
But the desktop /gui is slow to load.
From my experience slow loading desktop and thumbnails is due to the server not upto it.
But one that is very very slow sounds like software related…
I reckon a couple of reboots and upgrades it will sort itself out.
It seems like it’s software to me as well, but I’m not sure. It’s definitely not my network because my Plex thumbnails load nearly instantly on other devices on the same network. But I’ve already rebooted my Nvidia Shield several times and updated with the latest version of PMS so I’m not sure that’s the solution.
You still haven’t mentioned the server and what media formats you are streaming
Do you have PMS ON within the Shield?
As your shield is not the server that might be using some resources that it doesn’t need!!
That did the trick bud. Didn’t realize leaving the Shield TV native server on would suck up so many resources. This Nvidia Shield is an awesome little device, but it takes some tweaking and tinkering.

I bet 95% of people using the Shield just as a client have the server on.
I can’t remember if it is on by default or is part of the first setup.
