nVidia Shield - Unable to setup PMS

Server Version#: 8.1.0 (Shield)
Player Version#: 7.27.0.15018

Hi there, just purchased an Nvidia Shield (2019) 16gb to replace my desktop as a PMS. I followed the instructions here:

However after linking my account, it only acts as a player, and doesn’t prompt to set it up as a server. I was going to link to the media on my NAS. I have the shield on wifi right now, but I’m wondering if moving it to an ethernet connection might prompt me, although I’m unsure what that would change.

The documentation seems to indicate that I can run this just fine on the non-pro Shield, but if I can’t get this working, I’d like to know sooner than later, so I can return the Shield.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall, and just skip the account linking to see if it would prompt me, but that didn’t work either.

If you go into settings in the plex shield player, does it list the server as running?

When I go into the settings, where you would expect the server option, is just completely missing. It jumps from subtitles to advanced, with no server options.

did you get a tube?

it does not support plex server.

Figures. It’s going back then. Thanks.

the tube uses 32bit android and I think 2gig ram.

the shield pro uses 64bit android and 3gig ram (and supports plex server, it will be in the client settings).

Hilarious that I can run Plex off an RPI3 with a 32-bit OS and 1GB of ram, but I can’t run it on a shield.

I guess it will continue to be run off my gaming machine. Thanks for confirming.

Sorry, I did not design or make the shield, or decide that the tube would have less capabilities/features than a more expensive pro version.

Also, it is no doubt not because that it couldn’t, but that either shield’s engineering/marketing decided either it wasn’t a good and supportable experience, or they intentionally wanted to segment the product by offering a cheaper/more stripped down model, and a premium model with all the features.

All good, I’m not blaming you for trying to help me out.
