Running a 2015 16gb Shield TV running the latest fw without many problems, however I would like to use the PMS functionality since my storage server (nas) is not powerful enough for real-time transcoding. Already ordered a 64gb microSD (read somewhere that that would improve the experience).
However I get stuck at the third screen into the setup process of Plex Media Server, I cannot continue beyond the _Storage Access _screen, there is no checkbox to give access to external storage and I keep getting a pop up at the bottom of the screen saying I need to do this.
I have the server connected in the Store and Reset menu, but cannot turn on/off the Over Local Network switch (stuck on setting up)
Tried removing and reinstalling Plex and PMS updates, rebooting, etc. but it won’t work.
Since I have a lot of settings in kodi and spmc a hard reset is not really an option (let’s just say it’s the last option I want to try)
If you are not sure. On a computer, in a web browser, go on Google play. Search for plex media server. Click install and log in with your Shield Google account. Select your Shield in the drop down menu. This will push the latest version to your Shield.
After that try again the setup.
Before doing a painful factory reset, try the latest pms first.
Thanks for the suggestions, I just solved it (was quite easy actually, but somewhat hidden). It was a Shield issue after all.
Solution: Shield Settings -> Apps -> App Permissions (top item) -> Plex Media Server
To answer your question, my NAS is a unraid server, although it should be possible with a Docker, the server itself (HP Microserver) is not powerfull enough for transcoding.
MartIjn_76 solution worked perfectly for me, thank you!! I kept getting stuck at the storage access screen. I probably wasted a good 4 hours until I ran across his post.
I looked at many guides and videos on how to set up plex+nvidia shield+hdhomerun and none of them mentioned changing the app permissions for the plex media server within Shield settings.
For me the path is Shield Settings > Apps> Scroll down to Plex Media Server >select PMS > adjust permissions.
