Odd IP address

Server Version#:1.13.5.5332-21ab172de
I have a network range of 18.8.10.XXX and I am reading that if you have an odd address range you may not be able to find your server. What should I do?

I am using a Asustor NAS.

Plex implemented RFC1918 Private Network (home LAN) addressing rules.

This means:

  1. Your home LAN addresses, if within the ranges allowed per the RFC, will be easily discovered when performing initial setup
  2. If your home LAN is not RFC1918 compliant, you will always need to ssh-tunnel to the device to prove you are the owner during initial setup.
  3. All devices on your home LAN will appear as 'Remote" devices when in fact they are Local.

If my understanding of the RFC1918 is correct I can use an address as long as the first numbers are 10. So if I use 10.18.8.XXX I will be good. Is this correct?

I am an AV contractor so I will be using Plex quite a bit in the future and I like my networks to be unique, so I can VPN from one to the other. I am still a networking neophyte so RFC1918 is new to me but I am always interested in learning something new.

Thank you.

Yes, you should be good using anything in 10.*.*.* as well as 192.168.*.*

RFC1918 states:

192.168.x.x
172.16.x.x -> 172.31.x.x
10.x.x.x

I changed it to start with 10. and it works. Thank you for your help. Have a great day.
