Plex Server not found on new fresh install Synology NAS 918+

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.14.1.5488-cc260c476-x86_64
Synology NAS 918+

Hi. I would first like to put this in the context that I have already read through 20+ forum topics of this same type of issue and completed the same trouble shooting steps without any success.

I am running on a LAN 100.0.0.x
The 918+ currently has an assigned address of 100.0.0.171
I am setting up this new NAS for my parents. I have an existing Synology NAS running plex perfectly on the same network 100.0.0.100

When I open the plex setup page it just shows looking for server. It does not detect the new server setup. I have done all the uninstalling steps and refreshes about 20x now. No change

I have done the following (just to name a few things)

  • Complete reinstalls
  • Deleting plex folder
  • Deleting plex user
  • Deleting preferences file
  • Checking and assigning plex user access to both plex folder and library
  • Assigned different lan ips
  • Used both different lan ports in the 918+
  • Tried using multiple different browsers
  • Deleted the user activities/browsers within plex
  • Logged in via plex.tv instead
  • Manual install and install via package centre

As I said, I’ve seen the mods post instructions for this issue. I’ve followed all of them. No success :(.

Plex requires RFC-1918 LANs.

The address ranges for RFC-1918 are:

10.x.x.x
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.x.x
192.168.x.x

My other Synology 1815+ with plex is running on 100.0.0.100
Is RFC-1918 only on certain models of synology?

I need to amend my statement.

To let Plex/web automatically find and claim your server, it must be on an RFC-1918 LAN.

Anything else requires you use SSH Tunnel.

Geez you guys are good. Yep that fixed it. Thanks!

Very odd why my other plex server on a synology nas was working fine on lan 100.0.0.x
