Odd Issue with Playback of 1080P files

So far I’ve only noticed this with 1080P files. In general, if I play the video with a setting above 4Mb it will just give me the error “The video failed to start playing”. Generally at 4Mb it will play audio with no video, and will Direct Play. If I set it to 3Mb, it will completely transcode and play fine.

If I put the files on a flash drive and plug them into my PS3 directly, they play just fine. So I’m not really sure why it’s not playing through the Plex for PS3 app.

All video files are MP4, h264 either main@4.0 or High@4.1.

No one else? Doesn’t seem to be as much support in here as there was a few months ago.

on the playstation the codecs available to third party apps for streaming is not the same as what is allowed for Sony’s own player app which has access to all the codecs on device.

the PS3 app cannot do 1080p it is limited to 720p so in all cases it should be transcoding the video if the file is 1080p. so the real issue is why is it not having the server transcode video when at 4mbps or above

info on codecs the app does support natively here https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/204377253-What-media-formats-are-supported-

can you post the full media xml maybe something can be figured out from that

One other interesting point that I noticed is that event though the file is 1080P when you go into the video and set it to “Original” for bitrate it’s only 3.8Mb, where the app is listing 720P for 4Mb.

XML is HERE http://pastebin.com/FtQFEdZC

i’m unclear if the it is playing fine if set to original 3.8 , which would be the best quality it can be.

( the video stream bit rate of that file is bitrate=“3798” )

It is not playing fine at the 3.8, I was just stating how the settings says 4.0 is 720 even though the file is 1080

the 720p 4mbps is just one of the preset settings you can choose from.

can you grab the server log covering the playback when it is set at original. nothing really odd jumps out at me when looking at file xml
