So Weird issue with 4k Streaming from Windows Plex server to LG Plex app on LG TV.
Trying to Stream a 4k version of a movie and for some reason even though all performance counters on my pc say less then 5% usage including the network and the video and audio are Direct Playing but cant play for longer then 2 secs before the buffering begins. Installed Tautulli to see what was happening in the background and it should all be working but its just not. Anyone have any recommendations or suggestions for me?
You must be using Wifi as a connection with that bandwidth. Band and channel selection is very important to have a constant thru put. The LG supports IEEE 802.11ac
Try using 5GHz Band, channel 100 (DFS) with channel width set at 40/80MHz for maximum thru put. This may not be the same for your location but check on this page below. Also make sure there is no interference in the house between devices like fluo lights, fans, microwaves, cordless phones. Is your Router elevated? Many ISP’s offer apps for mobile devices to check WiFi strength in parts of your home. If using 5GHz Band there is far less chance of congestion from possible neighbors but it is still possible. 2.4Ghz band, channel 6 is default in most cases, which often causes problems.
If not using WiFi that is your problem as the TV Ethernet speed is 100Mbps, it’s not Gigabit
Both devices are on Ethernet Cat6 cables running Gig.
Pc is home built but as i mentioned the CPU is running at 2 % mostly because transcoding isnt happening. If i download a movie from my NAS it would max out around 115MB or 990Mbps so I’m guessing the network isnt the issue either. Its almost as if Plex is limiting something and preventing the stream to be transferred fast enough.
If you’re using a wired connection – keep in mind most TVs have only a 100 Mbps LAN port while they support faster WIFI.
With a full-quality 4K HDR movie, you can easily have peaks where the maximum bitrate of the movie exceeds that 100 Mbps bottleneck.
As Tom and I have said, the TV Ethernet port is your problem. I have read of success of using a USB 3 or even USB 2 Ethernet adapters. Search the forums as there are some feature restrictions if I remember correctly.
Conclusion: Plex is not limiting anything in your case.
I just verified that this lg tv uses 100mbps connection. That’s terrible but I will go to WiFi and see if it solves the issue. Thanks for your help with this.
