Got an odd problem.
I live about 5 miles from the transmitter towers in this area. I’ve got a small outdoor antenna, mounted in an unused attic on the 2nd story, and aimed towards the towers. As you would expect, I get a very strong signal here. All of the TV’s have signal strength levels pinned close to the top of the scale. The strength of the signals on the plex server is not quite that good, to be expected splitting that signal 8 ways (4 tuners per card) but quite usable, typically around 70 - 80% using the Plex app for iPhone to measure. ( The signal str. indicator on the Roku devices is iffy at best, often there is no reading given )
The problem is that if I have to disturb the coax cables leading to the tuner for any reason, the tuners in the server lose a great deal of signal strength, to the point where 1 channel that is usually 78% drops to unwatchable; the tuners won’t even lock on. Other stations are weaker than normal too.
Now here is the odd part. If, after having disturbed the connections, the signal strength is weaker across the board but can be restored to normal levels by putting a heavy load on the tuners; watching 8 different channels at the same time on various devices. This will restore the signal levels to the normal levels that I usually enjoy without physically touching any cables. Just the act of loading down the server seems to fix it. This issue does not affect any other TV in the house, just the tuners in the Plex server.
I’m at a loss on this. Anyone have any ideas?
