Hi, I have the same problem it continuously says offline. WAs hoping to add an external drive but cant do anything at the moment. Thanks
Have you guys gone through our support article, https://support.plex.tv/articles/221099988-setting-up-and-managing-plex-media-server-on-nvidia-shield/?
Cant see anything about problem with off line
I don’t know what you mean. Can you provide more details?
Hi. My plex server on my nvidia shield show offline. I can,t find anything to explan how to get the server online
I mean, where are you seeing this? Turning the server on/off is done from the Plex client also on the Shield. It’s in the settings, there is a row for Server.
THe offline showed up on the plex server on the shield and when I tried to get online with my computer. disabled it and installed again and now trying to do the set up it just stays on “plex media server is starting for the first time, please wait”
You can’t get it online from the computer, you need to do it from the Shield. did you read the article I linked? Look under the section " Enabling or Disabling Plex Media Server".
ive followed the article, using the app but it just buffers on the plex media server is starting for the first time. This is the 4th evening trying to sort this so it is getting very frustration, but I appreciate your help
Go into the Shield’s main settings and clear the app data for PMS. This will allow it to start over. It might have gotten stuck in some loop trying to start before.
Still buffering
Have you tried turning the Shield off and back on?
Also, from Plex Web, check your devices page and see if the Shield server is listed in there. Try removing it from there too.
yes lots of times
Can you manually grab the logs? https://support.plex.tv/articles/220347688-accessing-shield-storage/
not sure what that means, only just trying to add external drive when it worked on and off had a usb stick as internal drive
I’m trying to understand what is going on. You say that PMS is stuck at the loading screen. Even if you can’t access PMS, it should still be running and creating a log. The link above will show you how you can access those logs manually from another computer. The logs may have information on what is going on.
Can you explain exactly what you did? So you has a usb drive configured as internal storage. What happened to this drive? Did you just unplug it and plug in the hard drive?
yes , un plugged and plugged in external HD. But the off line problem was on going before I did this
You can’t just swap drives like that. When you set the usb drive to internal storage, that became the Shield’s main storage for apps and data. It is not an extension to the system’s internal storage, it replaces it. By unplugging it, you just removed everything. If you still have the drive and haven’t erased it, put it back and see if things start working again. Then we can work on adding the extra drive.
