Offline Plex Player in RV

I am trying to find a solution to taking media with me in my new RV. At home, I’ve got an awesome Plex Media Server with around 1000 movies and 1000s of hours of television shows on a 30+TB system. I can’t take the entire server with me when I travel and I may not always have network access. On my iPhone or my iPad, I can Sync content for offline playback, which is awesome for when I travel by airplane or somewhere else where I don’t have network access, but I don’t know if it is possible to Sync content to a USB-attached memory device on something like a Roku. I have several Roku’s in the house and I give family member’s with Roku’s access to my content, but that is only when they have network access. I would love to just get a get a couple of 512 GB USB memory sticks to download content for traveling.

No, you cannot sync to a Roku. One solution is to use a mobile Android device like a tablet or phone and SD cards instead of usb drives. The Android mobile app allows you to view video files on the SD card and play them back locally. If your device supports hdmi out, then you can hook that up to a TV. The mobile app can also see usb drives using an OTG cable, but then you lose the port to be able to HDMI out to a TV.

using a tablet or phone with sync is one solution.

you could also consider getting an nvidia shield, which can act as both client and server.

unfortunately you can’t ‘sync’ with the shield client, but you can attach a usb drive with whatever content you want to keep on the road with you.
