Has there been any thoughts to integrating the Sync capability that exists in the android plex app? I'm wanting to utilize a R-Pi in my RV for streaming from my home media server (SageTV + Plex Media Center using the SageTV Phoenix channel for Plex). This works great, as long as I have great connectivity. However, when connectivity is poor, I would like to be able to pre-cache certain items to local (in-RV) storage. The Sync feature on my android devices works great for this. When unable to contact the server, it displays only the content that is synced locally. Sync happens in the background when connected (complete with transcoding to a pre-defined format). I don't know how open Plex's Sync feature is for implementation, but if it is at all possible, it would greatly help in my particular use case. Should all be technically possible with an external HDD attached to the R-Pi. (would, obviously, have to set the Sync Storage location).
There is none atm as its not part of what PHT does in standard :)

True, but most Plex 'Home' Theater installs aren't as portable as the Pi... I can see this being a great setup for a car as well - if it had offline mode. Certainly smoother with it all being in the same UI, instead of having to switch to plain-jane XBMC to play local content, not to mention managing the copying of plex content onto the local(portable) storage.
I think it would be an awesome thing to have. It was one of the reasons I bought a RPi. Ide love to be able to carry some of my sync'd movies with me when i go places that its just not possible to get a stable internet connection for streaming.
Not a perfect solution, but you can sync to your Android and use the Mobile Server (Settings - System - Advertise as server), all you need then is to use the Mobile Hotspot functionality & WiFi dongle in the RPi...
Nice quick fix, but sync would be alot better.
Has there been anymore progress or thought to this?? Im still extremely interested in this function

It will only happen if Plex HT incorporate this function, don't hold your breath.
You could try asking for a sync functionality in Plex HT in their forum.

I really like this idea...can you tell me just a little more? I remember seeing a setting for "tether" or something so I'm guessing that's what this is. I guess all I need to know now is which USB network adapter would work for this? Thanks guys!
I really want this feature for use in my car that is the only place I’m still using obsolete disks I need a digital solution I want to sync content to my car when its in the garage I don’t have strong enough 3g to stream!
I have, unfortunately, switched to an old android phone as the Plex player in my RV, simply because it supports sync. It’s okay, but I miss using the remote with the pi. I would likely switch to using the android as just the sync, and have it serve up to the pi, but it has limited storage, and I would have to choose whether to play of the android or stream from the server back home. With sync I the player, it will default to local over streaming if local is available.
