8.12 client seems a total nightmare - so reset but that takes me back to factory. How the heck can I go to a specific 8.11 version or something that is stable, AND keep it from updating automatically.
Uninstall the current version and download the APK for the version you want from here
APKmirror has multiple versions to choose from.
Thanks, I’ll. try these ideas - any way to stop it from updating itself, once I get a nice stable version? I swear I spend more time fightint it than using it some days!!!
OK so figured out how to disable auto update which is superb, but the 8.12 update is the only one I can ‘seem to update too’. How in Google App store can you choose an older version?
afaik, you can not get older versions via the Play store, you would need to sideload the older version of the app.
Excuse me. Is it necessary to delete cache or data before downgrading? Or only unistall 8.12 and install 8.11 over?
I think
uninstalling it removes everything.
As after you sideload an older version you have to go through signing in and the setup screens again.
I just fail to understand how I have to do all this work, for a stable platform, for something I paid for. Wow as a software developer, I sure don’t get away with that for my clients.
If you only want to update to the stable versions you need to turn off the Plex Pass downloads.

As far as I know I have never ever turned that on, so it should only be grabbing current stuff.
I have now turned off automatic updates so that will help
but what a pain
Had to install downloader app
then install it’s browser extension
then download the older 8.11 APK
then install it and mark no apps to auto upgrade
That should lock me down on my NVidia shield I hope!!
You did not have to go through all that. In the shield settings device preferences under storage enable transfer files over local network. Then you can use your computer to transfer the file to your download folder. You can access that by using your computers file browser and using the UNC path \shield_ip. Once transferred you can use the file manager on the shield to install it.
It was an interesting exploration, but yes a tad painfull. I’ll check that option out today probably, we have a fully wired network so access should be easy/fast. But ya in the year+ of having that device, not really explored all it’s options yet that I MUST DO!!
All the Android TV 8.12 apps have been pulled.
So I think the one in the store may now be back to 8.11
(at least that was what a user posted in another thread)
Thanks finally I got it. 8.11 version and transfer option selected to HDMI.
