On-Demand Subtitles for non-premium users?

Hi,

I recently switched to Plex as a long time Kodi user.
I really love Plex so far however I really miss the way Kodi handles it’s subtitles.

While searching around I saw there’s a new feature where you can search for subtitles similar to the Kodi way. However it’s only rolled out to premium members for this moment.

I can’t find if this function will be rolled out to the big public anytime soon? I’m totally fine with the free version of Plex as I’m only using it once or twice a month. So the price of the premium subscription for the subtitles alone is a bit over the top for me.

I hope someone has the answer to this and I really hope it will be rolled out to every user soon!

Generally speaking, Plex doesn’t announce these things in advance and specifically in this case, why would they? It doesn’t make any business sense to do so.

It makes lots of sense as it would possibly make more people come over from Kodi.
The current subtitle system is terrible. I have to manually search each subtitle, rename it and put it in the folder next to the video-file. There’s not one agent or plugin that downloads the correct subtitle for me.

In Kodi the standard way of using subtitles has been Plex’s “new” on-demand system for years now. If one isn’t good, you just select the next one. If it’s good, but slightly off sync, you can simply adjust the subtitle sync with a slider… I know the last bit is more difficult to implement as the video is encoded on the server but the first part shouldn’t be a premium feature I think.

I completely understand that they let users pay a premium fee for extended functionality as multiple user support and streaming your content on the go.

Subtitles-support however is a pretty basic function in this kind of software imo.
